The rise in gas prices has increased demand for smaller, more fuel efficient cars in the American market, a call to which Ford has so far only paid lip service. The debut of the 2008 Focus at last year's Detroit Auto Show following the debut of several recent European market models like the Mondeo also caused people to call on Ford to bring its European Kinetic design to the U.S. Ford has finally responded on both counts, or at least it will for 2010 when the production version of this concept finally goes on sale here.

The Verve debuted as a three-door hatch at the Frankfurt Motor Show and then grew a trunk at a Chinese show last fall. It now comes to Detroit with a revised front fascia and taillights. The Verve certainly brings a new level of style that small US market Fords have lacked for a long time. Ford doesn't specify which fuel efficient 4-cylinder engine the Verve will get, but the 1.4L EcoBoost and the PowerShift dual clutch transmission would seem like a prime choice for the US market.

I like it! My guess is that it will be the next Focus for us, but I may be wrong. The EcoBoost 1.4L gets me excited, and I'd nearly consider buying one if it weren't for GM about to debut the next Astra sometime soon... But still, a very awesome car indeed!

...I'd also expect this to be the first truly "global" car Ford to sell...

Ooh.. I like that. But the lower grille is awkward looking. It's too tall. What's with the circle shapes along the fenders? :odd: Wheels that big don't look right on a 4 lug. But I like the red stripe tires. that's a cool touch.

👍

The back is off the UK Mondeo and the front is similar to the proposed new Focus....... It looks nice but as with concepts like that it will never look anything like the concept when it comes out!

In the third picture the front side shot looks so similar to a Civic!

Yes....bring it here...offer the EcoBoost 2.0 and AWD...call it RS...Scare Subaru.

Yeah, it is awesome. It literally looks like a Focus 5-door, and I'd be glad to have Kinetic come over here. It'll be a shock to those used to "Red, White and Bold," but I don't mind.

No longer Eating Babies...now Eating Civics.

Oh! did you notice the Tires! Redlines!

i am not a big ford fan but i kind of like it. the paint color is nice, the exterior looks very cool, and the interior is awesome. build it ford.

The exterior is very attractive.👍 Finally something I find attractive from the new ford models. The interior is kind of odd but nothings perfect.

The front imo reminds me more of the new Fiesta than the new Focus, not too sure what I think, it's just bits of cars we get thrown together imo.

And is it just me or are the front wheels bigger than the rear ones? It looks odd, the wheel arches don't look right.

That's dead sexy, although i think it could do without those fog lamps on the bumper.

The steering wheel also looks really plain.

Why do companies seem to think that making a car look like a whale in the front is a great idea? That being said, it otherwise looks good.

It's a bitter sweet symphony of a Civic and a Mondeo. Kinda like it.

It's a concept car and the interior still looks cheap.:indiff: And it looks a little chunky.

I really like the styling though. I would be very happy if Ford brought over Kinetic. And we could also use a new Focus.

Oh back to this again eh... Wasn't there a concept car with this shape a LONG time ago...?

Also, I was doing that shape back in the mid 90's.

I...can't say what I think about that drawing. The basic (And I really mean basic, as one must really squint AND blur their eyes to see any sort of semblance) shape is there, but the details....

Never mind. anyway, I'm glad Ford's on the upswing. Let's see if Chrysler can do the same...
