Airboxes "ruined" a lot of old school F5000 cars. :D

Wait, so they're using the Swift Formula Nippon chassis but not the awesome front wing? Boooo.

Jokes aside I hope this does well, if nothing else they should be awesome to drive.

I hope this turns out well, but I have my doubts. Just look how every open wheel category is doing down here. Or any category here not part of the V8 Supercar circus (even then, V8 Utes aren't in w good place). The car looks great though.

I reckon having a big V8 will get some fans down here. Most of the time open wheel categories don't get popular here because the cars aren't usually things that will excite the typical V8Supercar crowd. I reckon this might be different.

It will be interesting to see if this takes off. New 'formula' classes in general haven't gained much traction in Aus.

The part that concerns me a little is where they were gauging interest (at the PI Historics). It's good that people like them, but will anyone actually buy one? The minimum driver age (18) means you won't get any of the juniors trying their hand and I doubt many (if any) of the people in the F5000 series will fork out for a new one or sell their classic car.

I hope they get some numbers. The single-figure grids in 'formula' series down here is a bit disappointing.

It looks like an attempt to recreate the popularity and success of Touring Car Masters in open-wheel racing, albeit by cutting a few corners (since the old Formula 5000 cars were notoriously fragile and mechanically temperamental).

The name is a bit stupid, though.

Yeah that name is terrible, although I can't come up with better, Modern 5000 Series maybe?

I don't think it ruined any of those. I guess I should clarify. It ruins the new car as it doesn't flow at all and appears to be non-functional.

What it appears to be is made by a secondary school student for a project. Something tells me they couldn't get a cover together in time.

It's like the designer just plonked some scrubbed material on top of the engine bay of that car.

That's what I thought too, like there is a warehouse in Australia full of old F5000 engine covers/cowls, and they just machined them to work on a newer chassis.

With a power to weight ratio of the original F5000, chassis and engine frozen for 4 years, budget price and bellowing V-8, it ought to attract drivers and fans alike.
