I'm pretty new here at iRacing and I saw a video featuring a "Formula Fun" series, which can be attended by rookies or above. What ever happened to this series?

Yup, and depending where you are from, you may have a difficult time finding official races. The car has quite a few problems that tests even the pros' patience.

Or you can keep an eye out for hosted races.

Yeah you will have to A class it but don't be too downbeat. The star Mazda has better participation and is a lot more fun.

Personally I think they should scrap the Williams F1 altogether and scan an F3, F2 or GP2 car for top level open wheel racing.

Keep in mind there's no rush to get to an A license, especially if you just started on iRacing..

To clear this out im an open wheel racing fan, and participating on the skip barber series has been fun, but it would have been nice to test my skills on the limit from time to time, racing with the F1 car.

The Star Mazda is fun and does have better participation as F1 races only go official on Sunday, and some on Saturdays. I would say the F1 is more of a challenge, especially setup wise, and in my opinion it is more fun, but that is just me.

I wouldn't say they should scrap the F1 as it is the pinnacle of Road Racing in real life, therefor it is made to be the pinnacle of iRacing's Road Racing Service. I would however say they need to update to a newer Formula 1 Car, perhaps the Williams from 2011 or 2012 which would include Kers, DRS and the larger fuel tank.

This is good advice, especially for the FW31. It is best to do a season in something like the Star Mazda to get used to the characteristics of a car with a lot of aerodynamics.

How's the racing in Star Mazda?

I did a race at Mid Ohio, it was very close. Me and a guy were battling for the lead for the whole race, the gap never got to more than 1 second, until the last turn where I messed up. :) It was a very fun race.

How's the racing in Star Mazda?

As far as participation goes, it's great. It doesn't get the numbers that the Skip Barber series gets, but it's a much more forgiving car that doesn't spin like it's on ice. Great car overall, highly recommended.

So I will have to advance into class A to race the Williams F1 car. :(

or you can host a race for the F1 or join hosted races as others have mentioned.

another vote for Superbike81's Star Mazda comments! :)
The Star Mazda is a fun series. It has a lot of pilots (at least when I race). The car is not too difficult to drive and quite enjoyable to take on the track.
