Formula GT in a stock LMP car

Hi, this is my first attempt at running through the Formula GT world championship with a stock non-FGT car. This is also my first attempt at writing this stuff up so you’ll have to bear with me here.:)

I always wanted to do this in the R390 but I know it can’t possibly do this stock. One or two races, maybe, but not the entire championship. I finally got my hands on a Silver/Red Audi R8 Race Car (It normally gives me the yellow one) and decided to use that instead. The rules were simple:
• Only use R1, R2 or R3 tyres
• No modifications to the suspension, transmission, brakes or anything like that.
• No chassis refresher or oil change
• No Turbo or NOS
• No wallriding, shortcutting or ramming the AI.

I would only do 1 qualifying lap too.

Race 1: Tokyo - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 1’22.191 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:24’29.682
MOV – 5.700 (Green/Yellow)
Lap (R1) - 1’22.884
Lap (R2) - 1’20.336
Lap (R2/R3) – 1’18.954
Pit Stop – 12, 21, 29, 37, 46, 55

I was a bit worried after the qualifying lap and the fact that I hadn’t played in 2 months. Even though this is one of my favourite courses, I’m not very good on it. Went down to 4th pretty quickly and was struggling on the Super Hard tyres. When they pitted in I was 20 seconds back and I went onto Hard tyres and started to close in on them. On the second stop I remembered to change onto Hard/Super Hard and drove a lot better. Finally took the lead on Lap 47 but didn’t gain much of a lead and won by under 6 seconds.

Race 2: Twin Ring Motegi Super Speedway - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 0’28.447 (5th)
Total Time – 1:03’42.685
MOV – 2 Laps, 6secs (Orange)
Lap (R1) – 0’28.850
Lap (R2/R3) – 0’27.564
Pit Stop – 39, 71, 89, 111

Yeah, 5th place.:ouch: I was down to 6th soon after and just had to hold on until they pitted. I lasted until Lap 39 until my tyres were about to burst before pitting and thought about going for 3 stops but I was losing loads of time on the worn tyres. Went on softer tyres at lap 71 and strolled through to the end 2 laps ahead.

Race 3: New York - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 1’20.438 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:41.40.515
MOV – 1 Lap, 7secs (Yellow/Black)
Lap (R1) – 1’21.474
Lap (R2/R3) – 1’18.619
Pit Stop – 14, 23, 33, 43, 53, 64

I’m not a fan of this course and knew that this was going to be difficult. I fell down to 5th by the end of the first lap but held 6th behind me for a few laps It took a while to get the braking right on the first couple of corners and they pitted 17 seconds ahead of me. With the softer tyres I managed to lap conistently under 1’20 and stormed through to the end a lap ahead.

Race 4: High Speed Ring - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 0’55.561 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:14’46.399
MOV – 3 Laps, 52secs (Green/Yellow)
Lap (R1) – 0’56.464
Lap (R2/R3) – 0’54.197
Lap (R3) – 0’53.916
Pit Stop – 18, 31, 43, 57, 70

:grumpy:This was a very angry race because I was in a horrible mood and that mood helped me focus through the race and I was very fast, especially from about lap 20 to lap 60 where I was consistently under 55 seconds. I was 4 seconds behind at their first stop and just flew through into the lead and never got bothered again. I went onto Medium tyres onto lap 70 and after they pitted in again, I had 4 laps to go 4 laps ahead. With 1 lap left I had ot charge round to Lap 2nd place but I crashed on the last corner.

Race 5: Grand Valley Speedway - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 1’33.596 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:41’49.926
MOV – 1’15.500 (Red)
Lap (R1) – 1’36.164
Lap (R2/R3) – 1’31.711
Pit Stop – 11, 18, 25, 33, 40, 48, 55

I like this course and I’m usually alright around it. After falling to 6th very quickly I struggled big time and had to pit in 30 seconds behind. I struggled to find any real consitency and only had an advantage cos of the tyres and being one pit stop ahead. The MOV is really flattering on the performance.

Race 6: Circuit de la Sarthe I - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 3’21.081 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:19’46.414
MOV – 1’03.000 (Red)
Lap (R1) – 3’21.395
Lap (R2/R3) – 3’16.252
Lap (R3) – 3’16.560
Pit Stop – 8, 13, 17, 21

Not a difficult race. I’m used to driving the Speed 8 around here and the car behaves pretty much the same. My pit strategy made this easier and all I had to do was keep the car on the road.

Race 7: Monaco - “Cote D’Azur” ;) - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 1’20.198 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:48’40.102
MOV – 2Laps 16secs (Red)
Lap (R1) – 1’23.296
Lap (R2/R3) – 1’19.333
Pit Stop – 13, 22, 31, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72

Lead from start to finish, never being in any trouble. Managed to go 2 laps ahead with 4 laps to go. Very few laps over 1’20.5 and I was incredibly pleased with the race. Thousands of laps around the course on the F1 games on the PSX when I was younger always help me around the course.

Race 8: Seoul Central - 200 A-Spec .
Qualification – 0’48.844 (Pole Position)
Total Time – 1:31’53.792
MOV – 1Lap 35secs (Red)
Lap (R1) – 0’48.074
Lap (R2/R3) – 0’46.577
Pit Stop – 24, 42, 60, 79, 97

Another race where I lead from start to finish. The Red FGT went on a different strategy to everyone else (pitted early 3 times) and finished second by miles. Apart from one or two spins this was pretty uneventful sadly.

That’s as far as I’ve got. I’ll update this as I progress through the championship. So far I'm 7 wins out of 7 with about a 30 point lead. I’ll post a few short clips aswell when I get them uploaded.

Nice! I looks forward to seeing your progress! Those races don't take as long as I remember, and you're in an LMP.

Respect to the man in the ice-cream van! 👍 👍 👍

Can I just confirm something:

Lap (R1) – 1’23.296
Lap (R2/R3) – 1’19.333

Does this mean you started the comp on R1s and changed to R2 front and R3 rear at the first stop of each race (except first)?

Nice work, by the way. Have never tried this but it looks alarmingly difficult.

Thanks guys

Yeah I have Guyver's saved onto my laptop and I was comparing times off that. I haven't read OG's yet but I'll give that a look through now
