Guys,

Now that I've secured a second Poly001, I've decided to finally tackle this series (once I've finished the series this car will be assigned to test duties, just like my poor stuffed Poly 002 that has nearly 4000km on it).

Anyhoo, I ran the first race at Midfield, a circuit I admit I do the bulk of my set-up work at, so I'm reasonably familiar with the circuit.

I won the frikkin' thing by two laps!!!!

I'd like to know:
- what was everyone else's experience with the series?
- how competitive is 53.685 in a Poly001 around Midfield?

Well as I stated in this thread, the F1 race at Tokyo was pretty darn amazing. I've found in any of the races, if you give the computer drivers a bit of a lead, they'll slack off. Then the second half of the race you can pour it on and blow all their doors off. I haven't actually started the "Formula GT Series", but it looks like it's going to be loads of fun. Those cars are SOOOO fast. I was doing over 160mph around the big 180 degree turn! I think I turned in a lap time under 1:17 without any decent drafting. I'll have to do some lap splits on the arcade free run. Oh, I'm driving the US version's F688/S.

I didnt vote since I havent won any race by 2 laps, a 53.685 is very competitive, my F094/S with default settings did a 51.XXX I have heard that all NTSC cars have the advantage on the PAL's so that is why my lap time was faster (829hp, i know that the 001 can get to 829hp)

How long did it take you to do the race?? It took me 29:20.533, as posted in this thread: http://forums.gtplanet.net/showthread.php?threadid=3496

I think it was pretty much right on half an hour. I literally drafted past the fleet of 4 001's (the poor old single 002 was another half a lap again further behind) on the straight to lap them the second time on lap 30.

The 001 runs to 829hp after an oil change.

I wasn't pressing that hard on that time - the car felt quite different in race trim to what it did in testing, and I had a bit of a fiddle after qualifying to tie down the front end a bit. I could probably find another second or so, dunno about 2.

There were other options on the poll, ZC.

Yes I know there were other options but none applied to me

Beat them by 1 lap-1 vote :D

How consistant are you guys on your laps? After I've gotten away from the pack (either in front or behind ...) my lap times start to even out pretty quick. At Tokyo I was running a pretty consistant 1:17 +/- 1 second. When there was traffic, though, I'd drop down around 1:20 or even 1:25. It really makes you realize how important it is that lap traffic get out of the way in real races, but how handy it can be for a quick draft on strait aways.

Generally work within a band of about a second or so, excluding lapped cars.

I seem to carry a curse when results in me catching lapped cars in awkward places - had it in every racing video game I've ever played.

At least in TOCA2 they'd occasionally move over for you.

Is that the left hander into the tunnel?

I take a pretty conservative line through there, as I have a bad habit of understeer washing onto the rubbish on the outside on the exit of the corner and spinning.

I think I'm losing a lot of time there - what line are you taking there?

Yes it is the left hander, I usually brake down to around 45degrees, and every once and a while down shift into first gear to get extra revs.

I try and stay on the bottom, but i do sometimes, stick to the middle of the turn.
