Whats with this race? I raced the whole series in one sitting. I golded some lost others. All of them I made mistakes but even if I didn't win I was able to gain on them lap after lap. But Suzuka? Once they got ahead of me they gained a few seconds a lap. They ended up lapping me!! Does the AI get faster knowing I was close in points to at least getting bronze (which I missed by 5 fricken points!!!!) I need to go smash my wheel!! That's a lot of time playing for them to decide in the last race that they have superpowers!! As fast as they were in that race should I even decide to play the fricken game again I will have to Gold all the other races and forfeit Suzuka to win. Ugggg!! That really burnt me out on GT5. I may have to give it up for a bit.
 
I may try this tomorrow, I'll tell you how I find it. By the way, how long does the series take?
 
Could be worse. It could have rained. They pit after the first lap, I stayed out on the rain tires I equipped before the race, put out a good pace with a monster lead, and got passed like I was standing still the very next lap. Yeah, had enough of that real quick. DNF.

But I feel your pain. They go from committing bonehead maneuvers, like consistently spinning out at the NGK Schikane before Coca-Cola Kurve and the final straight at Nurburgring GP, in packs of 3 or 4, and then they pull a rocket from out their buttocks at Suzuka. What. The. Hell.

Suzuka is hard track to go fast on, second hardest on the game I'd say. Maybe you just need practise? You can go 1-2 seconds faster than the driving line in the esses alone, but Suzuka has time to be made everywhere. Cut the degners, cut the 130R, You can even not brake through most of T1 entry.

I would say around three hours.

And I didn't have any problems with the A.I. on Suzuka. I am very slow in the Formula Gran Turismo car with a controller and I got punted off/drove off 10 times and I was still able to win by a couple of seconds.
 
Not sure if it always rains at suzuka, only did this event once so far last night but when I saw the rain I started on rain tyres. I only found out too late that the intermediate tyres have more grip even though it was raining. When I switched I was gaining several seconds a lap on the leader but I was slowly losing places on rain tyres before that.
 
It doesn't always rain at Suzuka. I was lucky and got dry on both Monza and Suzuka.
 
It seems like the AI is actually worse for the Formula GT series than it is in any other race I've done up to this point. When the cars are in front of me, the spike their brakes in every turn and go slow. If I get ahead of them, they're all over me, slamming into the back of my car and spinning me out. I'll try this a few more times, but so far Im just annoyed that I spent 4.8 mill on the FGT car.

Also, anyone have any pointers on setting up the brakes on this car? I can't even slightly touch the brakes if the wheel is turned at all without the back end coming loose. I realize you should do most of your braking before the turn, but there are quite a few instances where you pretty much have to brake while entering the corner.

EDIT: What tires are you guys using in the dry? Race hard/medium/soft?

I raced Formula GT last night and it was raining on Susuka :(

I started with rain tires and they still left me like nothing. I was spinning all over the place and they drove fine wiht the slicks. Luckily they pitted so I regained my 1/2 lap gap to be only 12 seconds behind then. I proceeded to move into 1st only to spin and go back to 12th again. I did this like 15 times, no joke. I almost had a stroke I was getting so mad. lol

Combine that with me going into the kitty liter on Nurburgring several times (managed to place 2nd due to AI crashing on 2nd the last corner constantly), completely failing on Monaco, and a DNF (got lapped so quit) I barely squeaked by with a gold for the series. I would of died if I had to race it again, lol.
 
There's no reason not to be on Racing: Soft tires outside of the Endurance Series.

One of the first things you learn when driving the Formula GT is that it doesn't drive like it did back in GT4. You *really* have to respect the limits of the car. If you're using the brake going into a corner, either be done braking before you start turning or don't be on the brakes very hard while turning. Be easy getting back onto the throttle too. Even with TCS on 5, it's easy to spin the rear tires and spin out. I only just beat the Fuji race my first time around after spinning out immediately going into turn 1 lap 1.

Respect - you can't throw this car around the track. Your lap times should pick up and be more consistent.

Front: 7
Rear: 3

I changed it to that and it worked wonders. You can still make the rear end oversteer a bit, but it's no problem to deal with.

Remember to max the Downforce. Adjust Max Speed (Transmission) for each track.

I used Racing: Soft. You don't need to pit so might as well use the best tyres available.
 
Funny didn't rain for me but they all still pitted. Which makes it more sad that they pitted and
lapped me. After about the 3rd time around I was flying. Hardly slowing down at all but every lap they were getting further and further ahead. I would have quit long before the end of the race but I thought maybe I still had a chance in total points and maybe they would all crash like in most of the earlier races. NOPE they drove PERFECT and faster than heck. Even after they lapped me I couldn't keep up. They were stuck to the road. To make myself feel better I am going to say they CHEATED!!!!!! Aww that feels better

The other track I hate is the one by the ocean. When I come down that hill heading to the bay where the boats are coming out of the tunnel. It's a long straight down hill but has a wierd curve and maybe bump on it. Trying to keep speed to the last second then hit the brakes is tough. I always end up a little sideways.

Think I'll take a break until the weekend. Been playing non stop since the day it was released.

In regards to them pitting. I didn't realize that's what they did until I read an earlier post. They disappeared and I was in first. But thinking back, that pit was fast. I can't see how they got in driving pit lane speeds, changed whatever they changed and drove back out at pit lane speed and on my butt.

I know this may not belong in this thread but since we are already talking about it, what setup did those of you that got gold use? Trans setting, down force, tires, etc..

Thanks, I'll give those brake settings a try tonight. I did have the downforce maxed, and had the top end just about perfect for the track (redline at the end of the longest straight). Now if the damn AI could just learn to drive...

What did you have for trans top speed setting for each track? I kind of estimated off the length of the 1st track and how fast I went, looked in the book that came with the collectors edition for the lengths of each tracks straight away and adjusted it to that. But driving it would be more accurate

So far I've only raced Fuji. Im at work at the moment, and can't remember what I had it set to. I'll post back later when I get home though.
 
Fuji: 400 km/h
Indy: 400 km/h
Cote d'Azur: 320 km/h
Nurburgring: 380 km/h
Monza: 400 km/h
Suzuka: 380 km/h

They should work good enough.
