The future has never looked more bleak.

Dan Greenawalt has apparently left Xbox.

I'm now more convinced, and no longer optimistic that a new Forza Motorsport will ever happen again.

Long live Forza Horizon and Gran Turismo.

(RIP Motorsport, 2005-2026)

Well I hope he passed the baton back to Kazunori before leaving

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Forza Creator Dan Greenawalt to Retire From Microsoft After 27 Years

Dan Greenawalt, the man who pitched Forza Motorsport to Microsoft and founded Turn 10 Studios to build it, is retiring after almost 27 years with the company. The news comes from an internal Playground Games memo seen by The Verge’s Tom Warren, and it arrives barely five weeks after Turn 10 was folded into Playground Games.

He certainly created a great franchise and drove some heavy competition for Gran Turismo. Its a shame neither game series truly scratches that itch for me that the earlier ones did anymore. But I do consider Forza Motorsports 3 and 4 among the best racing games I've ever owned. Up there with Gran Turismo 3 and 4 (something about the 3rd and 4th numbered titles).

Wait, he did?

I genuinely didn't know that. No wonder I've never disliked Dan.
Yep.

I'm fairly sure he has a Special Thanks credit in PGR4, as well. Edit* Yeah, he's there as well b/c of his Microsoft role.

As i kid i always had a deep envy for my friends with xbox because they could play Forza Motorsport 4, all the best

What a great career he’s had. Teenage me had a blast with FM2, 3 and 4, and beyond. That game changed my life as it was the first time I’d paid attention to game development and Dan built a great community as well, and the transparency from the FM team set the bar compared to PD. I met so many great people through Forza, makes me think back to those times.

Kudos to Dan.
