Hi, I still consider myself new to the series since I only got on to the Forza series last year with Forza 5. Being new I don't have much knowledge of the series as a whole. I wanted to use to use this article as an opportunity to first welcome the new players into the series, and second to hopefully generate discussion of the history of the game. It would be cool if players that have played since the beginning and the ones that joined later could share what it's been like to play Forza all this time and what makes it special. Also I find the stories of how people switched series very entertaining.

Ok here's the link to Gamersyde's retro: Forza.

"This year the Forza Motorsport franchise turns 10, an opportunity for us to offer you some videos of the first Forza released on Xbox in 2005, just before the sixth game comes out. To capture the game we used the Xbox 360's backward compatibility, set to 640x480 because the European version of the game forced 50Hz, causing the game to run at 25 FPS instead of 30."

One of the eight videos uploaded by Gamersyde. Man this is making me feel like buying an Xbox to play Forza 1. :)

I've been with Forza since the very beginning and have had my best gaming experiences with Forza. FM5 was a let down but I'm hoping FM6 will be a huge return to form.

It's gone through lots of changes over the years some good, some bad and some it had to make due to losers in the community hacking. For me it's great success has been in offering gamers of all types, racers, hotlappers, painters, tuners, collectors, something worthwhile to do in game. Every one is as valuable as everyone else. If you got yourself involved in a vibrant small community the game was epic with all sorts of comps keeping you busy every night of the week. That's why I say it has given me my best gaming experiences. It engendered such a great feeling of togetherness. Long live Forza!

Got with Forza just after Christmas in 2012 with FM4. I was blown away by every aspect of it. The car list, tracks, customization and how great online use was. So before 5 came out I got lucky enough and found copies of 2-3 for $5 to see how the old games compared. Enjoyed them but FM5 got here and I couldn't get enough of it.

I was a fierce GT fan up until about 2006 but FM4 blew me away,I have every one of them but I have only really favoured FM since then,Horizon 2 was simply awesome.

Been playing since Forza 3. Even though since then, I have played and enjoyed other racing franchises, Forza has always been my root racing experience. And to be honest, I spend almost as much time in the livery editor and photomode than I do actually racing, implemented very well!

Man that Maple Valley video......love that track!

Been playing Forza since 2009. I bought the X360 Elite+FM3 bundle (VERY hard to find at the release of the game, I can't remember how many phone calls I made). Why? Because I was sick of waiting for...you know what title.
FM3 was an incredible experience, especially online. I didn't know it could be so much fun to play and interact with other players with the microphone included in the box.
FM4 was even better.
The story repeated itself after the lack of info about a "specific" game on a "specific" console. I bought the Xbox one and Forza 5. The only game I play on this console. Now I got my FM6 Ultimate Edition ready for the 10th. Good investment for me.

Say no more: Enthusia 2 for the Wii U. I feel your pain bro. It's coming one of these days though, you just gotta believe.

Glad it found its audience

I had an Xbox but foolishly didn't buy Forza Motorsport 1 at the time because I thought the graphics didn't look as good as PGR2's in the magazines. One of my major gaming regrets.

Turn 10 would make a lot of friends if they celebrated their ten year anniversary in style and updated this game for XB1.

I'd love if they did this but I would like it to be an exact port of the original game, original graphics, sounds, etc. Nothing new.

They could give you a choice Halo/TLoU-style.

Been racing since Forza 1. I'd have to say that Forza 3 was the best for me.

How's that? I've never played either of those games.
Me either but I believe they offer a choice of original or updated visuals from the menu to cater for both tastes.

That should be alright, I'm hoping that they release fm2, 3 & 4 with this backwards compatibility thing. If what you say were to happen plus BC we could have all the Forzas playable in the one same Xbox.

Frankly, I was never impressed with FM1, though it would be a fine game if you only had an Xbox at the time. Upon refreshing my memory with some of my GTP posts from 2005, I commended it for its customization and multiplayer, but the physics were very off-putting and the real-world tracks were wildly proportioned (Forza's Nordschleife was a joke for years). I also thought the graphics lacked polish (including some rather poorly modeled cars), even compared to its PS2 rivals.

However, with FM2 and FM3 the game got a little better each time, until FM4 finally delivered something close to what I had been expecting on the physics side of things. Building upon that, Forza Horizon was the first Forza I truly adored, a timeless classic I'll revisit for years to come. It's a shame the twin release of FH2 resulted in both a subpar game and few compelling reasons to upgrade to a new console, but I still have my eyes on Forza Horizon 3 for next year.

From its somewhat dubious early days, it's been an impressive journey for the Forza series.

Say no more: Enthusia 2 for the Wii U.
It would be a dream come true if Nintendo had bought out the Enthusia team for their own take on GT/Forza. I've kinda resented Konami for dropping that IP like a hot potato, and they don't seem like the best publisher these days, either.

I've been playing since Forza 1... though I skipped Forza 2 and Forza 5, since they didn't seem compelling enough to entice me to take the 360 and XB1 plunges, respectively. Forza 3 finally got me to buy a 360 and I just bought a XB1 for Forza 6.

Didn't care too much for the first Forza though, to be completely honest. The graphics looked pretty unrealistic compared to GT4, and the physics were a bit wonky. Though admittedly, I was using a controller that had a broken right thumbstick... so I cut the top couple inches off a near-empty pen ink tube and slid that onto the little metal pole that the thumbstick is supposed to sit on, and was using that for gas/brake.

Since everybody's talking about their experiences...

My first Forza was FM3. I originally intended to buy a 360 for FM2, but I finally took the plunge right as FM3 was coming out. And while it was love at first race with the series, I only feel it got consistent and polished enough with FM6. It's the game of the overtake: only now I feel confident enough to say that Forza is the new Gran Turismo. I wonder if FM7 will be Turn 10's GT5, tho.

I started with FM2 and IMO it is still the best of the bunch in many ways. While later versions added some cool features they also removed some of what made FM2 so good. For example in FM3 they removed the ability to tune in a lobby and removed the custom public lobbies in favor of the new hopper system. They did add back the ability to create a custom public lobby in FM4 but there is little traffic in them. FM2 format was better and should return.

Another thing that got hosed after FM2 is the ABS system. As of Forza 3 it is far to easy to lock the wheels and go into a skid when ABS is on, combined with the way they added the artificial boost using a manual clutch causing those players who prefered to drive using auto trans to be totally un competitive in almost every class hurt the game quite a lot as well. I know lots of people who quit playing as a result even though they loved the series they hated the route it took between 2 and 3.

Personally I haved played FM2,3 and 4 quite a lot and run a few laps on FM1. I did not bother with 5 mostly due to the fact that they dropped support for my wheels and then combined with the price of the XB1 and the lack of content. I will be getting the FM6/XB1 bundle this week and I guess I will be using a controller and have to deal with their broken ABS system but am sure I will still enjoy myself.

Horizon on the other hand is not a game that I enjoyed. I did buy the first one and hoped it would be good but within a couple of days I had to let it go. Reminded me of a older NFS title and not at all of Forza.

btw I am not a fan boy of any series. I am a fan of racing games in general so I play both GT and Forza and I have several PC racing games as well.

This actually made me dig through my old posts. Here's a copy and paste from just under three years ago:

I have to say, it took me a while to get into Forza 4. Bought it at launch in October, the Xbox not long before that, tested it out some, didn't really like it all that much, went back to GT5, eventually got too bored of GT5 and gotten back into Forza 4 around February, and I've never looked back. And I've got to say, I mainly use the Wireless Speedwheel, it's a lot of fun, and pretty good for what it actually is. Now and then I try myself with the controller (have to with certain cars), but I seem to be unable to get used to the damn thing. I know exactly what I'm doing wrong, i.e. I go left and up when I want to steer left, same for going right and down when I want to steer right, and the car just doesn't go where I want it to go. I've tried to make a conscious effort to fix it, but I'm always falling back into making the exact same mistake. Maybe that's what years of playing with the PS3 controller did to me, I just can't get used to another controller. But even with my limited use of Forza 4, I much prefer it over GT5 now.

Ended up playing quite a bit of Forza 4, but often got stuck in the Auction House. At the end it was either me on Fujimi Kaido or in the AH. I'd never returned to GT5, nor ever bought GT6, despite still owning a PS3. Skipped on Forza Horizon after playing the demo as well. Grabbed it much later and had a blast, so much so that the release of Horizon 2 was actually what made me buy the Xbox One. I got into Forza 5 late, but as far as track racing is concerned, it is to date my favourite. Yes, I expect this to change as soon as my Forza 6 is ready to be played. Only other Forza game I played was Forza 3, only recently for rewards points, and I did not like it at all. Probably too outdated to still enjoy in particular the physics and graphics. Not sure I'll ever buy a PS4 and any further GT titles, but I can't wait to play Forza 6, and I will most certainly get Horizon 3. I think the older I get the less I want to race on a track, and the more I just want to drive around places with awesome scenery.
