- Engine available at €8 million per team per season

2010:
- Engine available at €5 million per team per season

- Prohibition of a wide range of exotic, metallic and composite materials
- Standardised telemetry and radio systems

Sporting

2009:
- Testing reduction (50%)

I'm sceptical about the shorter race idea, I'm happy with the current race length but other than that, the ideas are great. I'm especially happy with the commercial ideas they came up with, it's always great to hear that the teams want to bring themselves closer to their fans. 👍

I agree. Speaking of the commerical aspect, when is Mr. E going to realize that HD format for racing coverage will change the way many people view the sport? This is a necessary step to adding more viewers.

Also, where is this quoted from?

"- Radical new points-scoring opportunities (eg, one constructors' championship point to be awarded for the fastest race pit stop)"

Please no! I can imagine this awful situation where someone's car has been damaged
but not enough to be deemed unsafe and them pitting every lap to get the bonus point...

18 easy points. :indiff:

Heh, I can imagine it now - "and Hamilton comes into the pits, McLaren check the car, and he's off again, fantastic, a pit stop of 0.1s!!".

I'm sure they've thought of all that, it probably has to be scheduled or something.

I'm not too keen on the standardised KERS or less testing or the cheap parts. If an F1 team becomes quite cheap to run wont we see a lot more teams in F1, but no were near the pace of the front runners. And I fear that it'll turn into a two tier system were you have the manufacturer backed front runners like McLaren, Ferrari, BMW etc and then another group who are regularly 2-3 seconds off the pace who buy all their parts from the front runners. I dont think that will be the case this year, but it could become reality within a few years.

Well, I'm not sure I understand your feared scenario. Only 1 point per race is the indication I get. You need'nt pit every lap to get the fastest time - only once every time someone beats you, assuming you get the fastest time outright.

Aren't you basically describing the early 90s there?

Standardised KERS might be a better idea when its been developed more....wasn't that the point of bringing it into F1? So the bigger teams can develop the technology faster? If its standardised, there won't be nearly as much development because it won't really benefit each team, they all get the same system.
I think that they should allow KERS to be like the engine supply - have a cheaper, standard alternative for smaller teams while letting the bigger teams choose to make their own system still.

It's no secret that the single most important element of speed in this sport is aerodynamics. Just compare car for car the performance of the 2008 performances of Ferrari v. Force India. Now, assuming the standard engine, transmission, KERS, tires, telemetry, etc. secures the reliability of the cars uniformly, the most important and competitive factor, aero, remains intact.

Allow high-definition broadcasting of races and award a point for pole and/or fastest lap.

Some racing series seem to award too many points. I could see points for pole and/or fastest lap, but other than that you start down a slippery slope...

1 point for leading the most odd numbered laps in a race held on an odd numbered date.

1 point if you are in the lead and the lap number is the same as your car number.

2 points if you pass a car into a position that makes your new position squared equal to the sum of the years of birth for both you and the driver overtaken.

-1 point for not showing any emotion on the podium (sorry Kimi)
