Found a way to disable ABS!

I know, I know, this doesn't sound important to some people but you won't believe what I just found. Many people here on GTPlanet complain that you can't turn off the Anti-lock Braking System. I would a way to do so, albeit cumbersome. All you need to do is press the brake and press reverse (default setting: triangle button) at the same time. I did this with a stock Audi A4 and pressed the brakes really hard when I noticed this trick. Let me know what you think once you try it.

[Edit] Whoops, forgot to say that you have to buy the ABS controller/brake controller (whatever they call it in the game) and it as to be turned down to its lowest setting for this to work.

The smoke you see is actually being generated by the tires spinning in reverse, not the tires locking up. I assume that the only way you know you 'disabled' it is because you generated smoke, correct?

Ohhhh! I think I get it now. Still I ask what is the point? Why?

Pressing the brake and reverse at the same time, can that be any more cumbersome?

Let me explain again:

1) The wheels do lock up... try to do the trick on the S-curve near the end of the Complex String course. Then check the replay.

2) I've checked on other topics and people have said that they didn't like how the ABS cannot be switched off. I think this topic can help those people.

3) Even if the wheels were spinning backwards, the traction would be equivalent of a non-ABS car with wheel lock-up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the E-brake perform the same function, locking up the wheels? And with only one button-press at that.

hahaha, you would think, right? Two buttons are better then one though! Lets try 3 next time. Circle square and R1 to get the golden brakes that give you unlimited lives!

Sweet! 💡

1) *shrug* Beats me. No PS2 around to verify.

2) Well.. They can always yank the handbrake.. That would definitely stop and lock their tires.

3) I don't think the equivalent would be tires spinning backward.. Spinning backward would indicate you have even less traction than locked tires. I can't explain it though, so if Famine would like to come in here. :)

Have you ever checked out the drifting forum?

Have you ever heard of tolerance? 💡

Don't like it, don't go there... Don't go there? Don't talk about it. 👍

pulling to e-brakes would only lock the rear wheels only. Though if there is no abs, and the wheels locks up, all 4 wheel should lock up not just the back.

I wouldn't really see why you would want to turn off the ABS maybe I'm noobish or something like that. When I brake I turn while doing so mostly so then I get traction to the front tires to try and do a small drift or just to get grip while not going so fast. If the brakes did lock up for me I wouldn't be able to drive. Because I would slide to much and hit a wall. Maybe I haven't played long enough to make it want to turn off. I haven't really thought about what ABS does but now I get it. Just wanted to state this so yeah.

And now to re-enable the ABS while doing the anti-ABS trick.

Just rapidly tap the two buttons while braking. (It is reccomended reverse and brake are set as shoulder buttons for added ease.)
