Looks good for ps3
I'm not so sure.
A 1000:1 contrast ratio is very poor by today's standards, and its black levels are practically non-existent, with gray being the best one can hope for. It isn't terribly bright either, especially for such a small screen compared to its 60"+ brethren.
This raises the next issue to consider and that is size. While 1920x1080 displays "when" displaying 1920x1080 video are truly remarkable, the difference between them and 1280x720 displays is only obvious when the distance to width (D:W) ratio is less than 2, and almost completely unnoticeable when viewing sources that are not 1920x1080 (like 720p HD, DVD, and standard def material). So unless you are in the habit of sitting less than 3 feet away from a 37" TV, then you are better off spending less on a 1280x720 set.
Then there is the issue of HDMI 1.3, which this set does not have.
Finally, there is the price. Unless you can get one of these for under $1,000 you are probably better off waiting for a better choice. If you don't want to wait for the announced price drops of current 1920x1080 displays, or the upcoming slate of dozens of new 1920x1080 displays with HDMI 1.3, you can get a Toshiba 62" 1920x1080 DLP HDTV for less than $2,500 with over five times the contrast ratio of the Amoi Advent, twice the brightness despite having a screen area that is three times larger (4sqft vs 12sqft). It will have a significantly faster response time (aka LCD smudgies), and true black levels, not gray. It features the latest color wheel, which has all but eliminated any possible rainbow effects. Oh, and it also has a nearly invisible pixel grid (aka screen door), where as the grid on the Amoi Advent, like most LCD displays, is quite apparent.
However, there are even better choices than that Toshiba that are coming out over the next few months. All of this is great news for those looking for 1280x720 bargains, as there will be MANY! Moreover, for those patiently waiting for economical 1920x1080, they too will be quite pleased with several of the upcoming products.
At this point in the game, I would definitely not recommend the Amoi Advent. There are simply too many better alternatives available now and in the near future.
