I happened to at last figure out the best settings for the following cars :

Shelby Cobra NA Tuning S-2 + Medium Tyres:
Springs : 12 / 9.5
Height : Min / Min
Bound : 7 / 4
Rebound: 7/ 10
Camber : 2.0 / 1.5
Toe : 0.0 / + 1
Stab : 7 / 7
Gears : (Auto) 33
ASM : 3
TCS : 2

GT40 NA Tuning S-2 + Medium / Hard Tyres:
Springs : 14 / 11
Height : Min / Min
Bound : 7 / 5
Rebound : 7 / 10
Camber : 2.5 / 1.0
Toe : 0 / +2
Stab : 7 / 5
Gears : (Auto) 37
ASM : 2
TCS : 1

They both handle like a dream now. Keep in mind that since the Cobra has the engine placed way behind the fore wheels, it handles close to an MR config. car... (I found that idea in some FAQ but can't remember which...)
 
good, stuff you got there. I never had the patience to deal with that damned gt40 for more then 2 laps at laguna for settings. I will try the settings tommorrow when my roommate wont kill me for playing at 3am.
Keep the tuning up and keep on posting them. When I get a chance (and a decent tune) I will be sure to post it.
Just one quick question, both cars are dropped to the floor, so to speak, and, especially the cobra, the springs are kinda loose(sp). Do either of them scrape at the bottom of hills?
(i know, the wording of the question sucked, but you can probably figure it out)
 
Long as you keep your apex and brake way earlier you hardly ever hit or scrape the walls etc. If ypou hit the rumblestrips too fast with a stiff suspension, you will miss your apex and slam into whatever obstacle lays ahead. A bit softer suspension compensates for that.

But if you insist on pushing the car over its limits, the law of physics (gravity and centrifugal forces) take over the steering wheel... :D

it is called momentum. (being a physics major i can sometimes be too picky bout stuff :))
i actually meant whether it scrapes on the pavement, not the walls. The feeling I get when I hit a wall is sickening, i just feel bothered inside, I want the perfect line ;)
the other thing that can compensate for flying off rumble strinps is maybe much softer stabilizers front and rear. really stiff will cause your car to fly because there is almost no give in the susoension.
But, alas, i have not tried these setups in game and if you got the gt40 to turn with out having to do unnatural things with the game pad i am happy enough. (i love the sound of that big old ford engine :))

I could swear I learned sometime that what we are dealing with is called centripetal acceleration, meaning the rate of change of tangential velocity... :weird:

But whatever you may call it, better break down before that hairpin :)
 
centripital is right, and not completly right in this particular case.
when your car us turning the friction between the tires and the road create a force that holds the car in the turn, the force is broadly labled the centripital force. But here, in the hairpin, you hope it does not break down because that is what is keeping you on the track. What it counteracts is momentum, or you could say "an object in motion stays in motion, and same direction".
But I am nitpicking and probably sound like your physics teacher :)
 
I also am a Nuclear Engineer (but working in the aviation industry) and I agree 100%. But how could I know that you would know what I did ? People not mastering physics as we did call it "centrifuge"....

I would even go further and calculate the radial forces depending on the mass, velocity and radius of the bend... But beats me if the PD team ever took those data into account... :D

BTW, please correct the TOE, as I mistyped a "plus" instead of a "minus"... It should have read "-2" and such...

About too low ride and soft settings; yes, you are right... The cars DO bottom out frequently but well, everything has a cost... :cry:

And no matter how hard you try, those two cars are from my point of view are fine machines and with the technology they have been built are "Wonders on Wheels"...
