Looks like I have a new summer show to watch:
Franklin & Bash
I should start by confessing that I was fond of Breckin Myers' work pre-Garfield. And honestly, I think he did that because he got to work with Jennifer Love Hewitt. That would make me risk a career ending job choice. But I truly enjoyed things like Road Trip and Rat Race as non-nonsensical comedies.
Anyway, I had all but given up on his career until I saw an ad for this show. I thought that this looks like fun with the whole immature attorneys that pull courtroom stunts thing going on. So, I set the DVR and gave it a shot. Yep, I like it. TNT's S&P department is also allowing shows at 9PM get away with more mature topics and language than typical cable fare, which helps the writing not feel as forced as something you could catch on NBC at 8:00 before reality TV took over.
And there is the number one reason to watch this show: It's not reality TV. It is written and produced entertainment. There are no Snookis, no housewives, no chef's, or whatever. What they do have, however, is grown men, in three-piece suits playing Wii Tennis in the conference room of a law firm because "It's the biggest TV in the building" and hosting Killzone tournaments from their apartment. Also, it has a quirky boss who finds over-confident bets made between his employees exciting, personally takes on the cases that involve beautiful women and supposedly secret Chinese underworld councils, and speaks Chinese to his martial arts instructor simply to show off that he can. In short, it has good, honest legal dramedy fun.
Anyway, I wanted to see if I am the only one watching this show. If not, then yay. If so, then start then give it a shot. Last thing I want is to find out another show that I find enjoyable gets canceled after a season, like Firefly or The Good Guys. When American Idol is on its infinite season and has dozens of imitators but shows that actually feature talent can't get an audience I begin to question how much longer society will last.
