Free Microsoft Software

If you're a student you may be entitled to download pieces of Microsoft software free under the MSDNAA (Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance) initiative. I've downloaded various pieces of software (including the version of XP Pro I'm running just now) in the last couple of years.

I'm not sure how you can find out if you're eligible or not, but if you're in doubt you could ask the tech/computing department at your school/college/uni.

For free? Nice.

I bought MS Office for the reasonable sum of £90 - Student and teacher edition. That worked out nicely - my mum was a teacher, and i was a student.

So what's available so far? Hopefully they have a new movie maker lined up for me

You'll need to bear in mind that the license is only valid for as long as you meet its criteria. I.e. you can only use the Student Edition for as long as you're a student. If you obtain software because your institution has a specific license for it, then it is only valid while you're a member of that institution.

Speaking of which.... Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2005 versions are available right now for free directly from Microsoft.

I've got the Visual Studio Web Developer Express Edition. It works so much better than Frontpage, IMO.

im pretty sure the local college does this since they sell Activation free Office and Windows versions for like 10 bucks a copy.

Only just noticed this post. You can still use the software once you leave the institution but not for profit...since I won't be using Windows for profit I can keep it for as long as possible...
