Upfront: this is a hobby project built with Claude (Opus 5.5), which wrote all of the code. The ideas, testing and
decisions are mine.

I was looking for a way to improve my driving and thought it could help others who want golds in the time trials
(or the Super Licenses).

The app records GT7’s live telemetry on your (android) phone while you drive (the same data feed SimHub and similar tools use),
then compares your lap with the recorded top lap of the current time trial, corner by corner. No computer needed.

What it does

  • Tap Record, drive a few laps, tap Stop. Your fastest lap is picked, or you can choose any lap.
  • A track map coloured by section: green = gold pace (within 3%), amber = silver pace, red = slower than silver.
  • A “Start here” box with the 2–3 biggest, easiest gains.
  • For each corner: where you brake, your slowest speed, when you get back on the throttle, and your exit speed,
compared with the current world record lap.
  • Close-ups of both racing lines, one showing where you brake or accelerate harder or softer than the reference,
plus a brake and throttle chart.
  • Super License tests too, compared with a gold-medal run.
  • Predicted gold, silver and bronze times for the current time trials, and past events with their top 100.
It’s free, with no ads and no account, and it collects nothing. Your recording stays on your phone unless you save
it. The PS5 or PS4 and the phone need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. If you use mesh Wi-Fi or a range extender, the
app will tell you if they’ve ended up on different networks.

To test (Google needs 12+ testers for 14 days, then I’ll make the app public):
  1. Join the testers’ group: https://groups.google.com/g/time-trails-gt7-testers
  2. Become a tester and install: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/io.github.gt7timetrials
Once you do the above, it is like a normal app. Please keep it installed for a couple of weeks. Feedback in this thread or through the app’s Play page is optional and very welcome to help me improve the hobby app.

Thanks to the drivers whose laps are the references, and to the community members who worked out GT7’s telemetry.
If you like the website or the app, please consider supporting your favourite GT7 content creator.
