Great now I can drive the car I have always dreamed of driving...
I wonder what they use as a base for the game. Would they use something like rFactor or GTR or something? or would they do it from scratch?

It's made by Simbin, so it'll be the GTR/Race/Evo engine. It'll only be a matter of time before someone edits it to be useable in Evo, just the same as the M3 challenge was.

Ahh OK cheers
so would the Min Specs be about the same as GTR Evo ?

It's coming out tomorrow guys.

Players will be able to choose between the Volvo C30 which is competing in this years STCC ( Swedish Touring Car Championship), the STCC Volvo S60 that participated a few years ago, the Volvo S40 that participated with notable success in the BTCC (the British Touring Car Championship) the Volvo 850, the estate car that became a legend in the BTCC, and finally a true racing classic, the Volvo 240 Turbo Group A.

here is a choice of two tracks: Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena in Göteborg, Sweden, and Chayaka outside Kiev in the Ukraine. Volvo - The Game is the only virtual racing game in the world to include the Ukrainian track. With Volvo - The Game, SimBin and Volvo Cars want to reach out to a broad public.

The game offers a choice of skill levels: “novice” with all the driver assistance technology activated such as ABS brakes, “semi-pro”, and finally “pro” where there is no assistance whatsoever.

From SimBin.

It's going to be good.

Go download it now!

Wow, there's even an online mode where you can race people live! I'm on it now, looks awesome so far.

Username is GTP_turbolag online, and I'm currently first on the race leaderboards. Even though there's only like 5 people on it lol.

i swear i thought i edited my original post to show links haha. i guess i could go and do it now. Its pretty much what i expected to be: dull. I didn't try multiplayer. its okay for a free game i guess.

Downloading now. :)

*edit*
I can't get my xbox360 controller to work with it. Even though it recognises it, none of the buttons work. :grumpy:

Hey Gabkicks! Since your screenshots in the "Race Sim Gallery" are awesome, I'd like to ask if you could take some of the S40, 850 and 240?

Guys, let's all meetup online! My online name is GTP_Turbolag as stated above, what if we all made GTP_ names online?

I thought it was a bit of fun, nothing special though.

The sliding of the old 240 was one of my favourite things, and the pressure of the STCC car around the tight eco arena is also good.

EDIT: How does the multiplayer work? There's no server options or anything to start your own...

Greycap was disappointed by this game.

Indeed. Having driven a real 240 for about a year the modelling of the car in the game is so badly off that it isn't even funny. The real car is known for being able to catch just about any slide as the front wheels' turning angle is out of this world, the one in the game is gone as soon as the tail steps out more than a few degrees. The steering ratio itself is approximately correct but there should be about 600 degrees of lock per side instead of the 90 there is now, or alternatively a lot faster steering. Moreover, it's said to have a 20 valve engine. Not a single 240 coming from the production lines ever had four valves per cylinder, and even fewer had five cylinder engines. Not to mention that the Group A car was a turbo model that most definitely had a four cylinder 8V SOHC engine, the B21ET.

Rant over...

despite the "making of" video, it seems pretty obvious that accuracy and realism weren't the goals of simbin... and of course, its Simbin in the first place. I didn't expect much of anything, so I'm not surprised :p

Agree about the 240. Amazing that not even the swedish SimBin got the car to look right. And if it's said to have a 20 valve engine in game, that's a really cheap error. Everyone who knows just a little bit about Volvo, knows that the 5 cylinder engine came with the 850 series. As you said, the Group-A had the 8 valve B21ET.

The 855 and S40 in the game looks awesome, however.

Simbin wasn't going for an all out sim...they still wanted the 'average' person to be able to play it with a keyboard most likely so they tuned down the physics.

I think its pretty awesome and was really pleased when I'd read they'd modeled the 240, S40 and of course the BTCC 850 :D (I figured the other cars would be the ones from the STCC game) The 240 model as mentioned is a bit off, the back is far far too square a bit of a mistake for a Swedish company representing a Swedish manufacturer...

I enjoy driving the 850 and it does drive sortof similar to mine but difficult to compare anyway as its the BTCC version (which funnily enough I haven't driven) :) Shame there isn't a proper online race mode but then its a free game and for that its fantastic. Even better than you don't even have to sign up or register unless you want to enter the competition. I think the S60 concept is butt ugly from the front though.

Do any other car manufactorers have these types of games? I have this and the BMW M3 Challenge on my laptop, but really want more...

The game is quite fun with the dual analog pad I bought a couple of days ago (It's just like a Playstation pad) - not a proper simulation, but it's still a laugh.

I am going to try it with the keyboard now... Left my pad at home...
