I just got my Freeview digibox in this morning and I'm already having a bit of a problem.

The digibox I got has one RF input, one RF output and one SCART output. I have a SCART adaptor I've had for a few years now:

So, what I'm attempting to do just now is to plug the SCART adaptor into the SCART output on the digibox and use the S Video output on the SCART adaptor to connect to the S Video input on my TV Tuner card for my PC. However, when I set up this arrangement, the picture on the PC Monitor looks terrible. Here's an example:

Can anyone think of a specific reason why this is happening, or could it just be that the SCART adaptor is faulty?

I've also just tried there using the composite video and left/right audio outputs from the SCART adaptor to my Tuner card and the picture seems fairly decent. This leads me to believe that either the S Video output on the SCART adaptor is faulty or you're not supposed to use the S Video output (reminds me of the stories when PS2 came out that you couldn't record from one of the outputs due to copyright infringement/piracy restrictions (was that also the S Video output?))

Thanks in advance for any help.

edit: Just found out that I could actually cap S Video there (Previously I'd set my TV tuner to save to my external hard drive which is now disconnected. Instead of giving me an error and telling me the location wasn't available, the card automatically searched my remaining drives and partitions to find the one with the most free space and saved there. Nice bit of coding!) so I've edited the first post and inserted a screencap of the S Video set up

edit2: Added some more information to the first post.

Well, i don't know if you're supposed to connect your freeview box to an svideo cable. I guess, and this is an educated guess, that the picture gets sent down the scart cable in a different way to the way that svideo works, so your picture gets distorted. That may not be true, but that's a guess by me. That or you have a faulty scart adaptor. If it's been well looked after, ie not left in a damp cupboard or in a garden shed, then it's probably faulty. I've had problems with svideo before. I bought a cable, and it didn't work with my laptop, so i took it back. Got a new one of a different type, and that didn't work either. I presumed it was my dreadful toshiba, so i gave up. But now i have my new compaq, it still doesn't work. I can't be bothered to try again, or go and get a new one, so i haven't :dopey:

I went to Maplin yesterday to ask one of the guys in there if it was technically feasible and he said it should be. I bought a new adaptor when I was in there and it's giving me exactly the same problem. Looks like I'll just have to stick with what works. Och, well, thanks for the suggestion
