Freezing issue advice needed

Going along swimmingly when suddenly after completing (albeit finishing 6th) the IB kart championship, upon entering to rerace, the game freezes as the first kart race is getting ready to start. Reboots, rebuild, nothing helps, same issue, same place. Should I delete Saved Game Data? I understand if I do that it will automatically load the Backup Saved Game Data. I backed up to USB a few days ago. If the former doesn't work, how do I load the USB backup? Thanks for any advice.

I'd start in the obvious place and clean off your disc. This just happened to me last night. Just a smudge across the disc.
 
I deleted my SGD and loaded my backup from USB. Unfortunately, it was from five days ago. Tried the IB kart again, and it seemed to work fine. I guess it was just a corrupt file save. Must back up every day from here on out.
