I'm pretty excited by this possibility... I know the news is just breaking, but does anyone know more?

"Japanese hardware manufacturer Frex GP is prepping a new line of products that are based on Logitech’s G25 and G27 wheels. This new series is tentatively titled “Type G” and they’re saying it will be compatible with Gran Turismo 5 as well."

I understand via the SRT report from awhile ago that a Frex simwheel is over $2000 (which probably means I'll never really be in the market for one of these things) but wow, this looks like the good stuff man.

I guess the real question is now that the G27 is at what appears to be nearing the end of its product lifecycle, is this just too little too late for the mainstream?

Or is it great timing to entice people whos G25's and G27's are getting old and need a mechanical refresh to have a serious look at the FREX upgrades?

I just spend 500 euro on a Thrustmaster after my g27 dying on me after only 3 months. And thats the absolute max for me personally. The thing sure looks cool though and if i would have the money im nutcase enough to spend that amount on a wheel. I wish that all GTplanet members including myself have the boost in cashflow needed in 2011 to buy this piece of art! Peace and greetings Niels

I don't know honestly if Logitech has really updated the "brain" of any of their FFB wheels since the DFP... it always just felt to me like they added features and got mechanically better... and I still don't see how Fanatec or Thrustmaster have really bettered Logitech in that regard. In fact, it seems like Fanatec has pretty much just cribbed Logitech's operating logic already, and the T500 is still developing besides it's elite level of GT5 support.

Anyways, for me, having the compatibility and ease of use of a Logitech and the awesome professional style hardware of a FREX would be a dream.

I would assume this would be their "value" brand. i.e. Probably half as much as their full on pc stuff but that is just my take on it. Glad to see more options in the sim wheel market, gotta love the impact GT5 is having. Being a current G27 owner I would love to upgrade to something better. Thrustmaster seemed to be a decent upgrade option but this is looking even better.

for that cash ( i am sure it won't be cheap), i hope it's 100% compatible with GT5 - saying this since it's based on g27 and that isn't 100% compatible

I still don't understand the whole "not 100% compatible with GT5" thing. Every feature of my G27 works with GT5... FFB, paddles, clutch, shifter, rev lights, everything. The only thing I can't do is assign buttons. I guess I can't use EVERY button on the wheel in a PS3 game, and that's a shame, I suppose, but I thing it's more a matter of GT5 not taking advantage of the wheels features than a failing of the wheel itself. Understandable, since it's still not a Sony licensed wheel.

To me, it makes sense for FREX to use the Logitech wheel as it's base, since Logitech OWNS that market in terms of sales volume and has for awhile, so they're widely supported by users and developers and will continue to be.

Finally, I seriously doubt there will be any changes in compatibility, since it literally looks like the FREX wheel probably just uses the boards from the G27 and all FREX hardware to work... but who knows??

Hey Gunstar, why did you create this thread when there is already a thread about Frex and the PS3?

As was pointed out, there is already a thread here discussing this.
