As you can see im new to these forums and I came looking for some advice from some seasoned GT3 players.

Im hoping to buy a PS2 with the money i made from work and I was wondering if GT3 is really as good as it sounds.

Ive looked all over the official website and loved the first two games but theres this nagging in my mind as im spending what i consider a lot of money to buy a PS2.

GT3 is now on platinum so thats a lot chaeaper so it helps, Is the buying and tuning up aspect still as good as it was in GT or has it become much more arcadey for the wider audience.

Any advice would help me especially on wether a PS2 is worth purchasing at the current time.

Mage. :banghead:

If you only buy a PS2 for that reason, I shouldn't do it.
If you are planning to buy more games, buy it, GT3 IS A GREAT GAME, with some small glitches, i have no gt1 or 2, but i think it's a better game than the previous two games.

Ive never owned a Sony console so im just a little hazy on it all.

Sorry to say it but i want Smackdown 5 as well :irked: I think i might go for it, Im gonna go buy one online when my mum gets back.

Thanks for the quick reply, consider me a ne\/\/bie member.

Well Mage.. First - Welcome to GTP.. You've just found one of the coolest sites on the net. Especially if you're into GT3... (Which you're not at the moment, but will be after you get it)

And yes - Even if you ONLY bought GT3, the price of the PS2 is still money well spend.. (And GT4 is coming as well)

Instead of SD5, have you looked at Back Yard Wrestling ?... Now that is one cool game :D Nothing like beating people with a tire or a chair or an empty oil drum :trouble:

Cheers - and again - Welcome....

I know people who have bought thier PS2 specifically to play GT3......now they have other games over the years but they wanted GT3....

the graphics are still good and its only now that games are catching up with GT3 in thier game play and graphics....you should buy it and then GT4 next spring...its only £15 platinum....worth the money i think...

Its a damn stupid idea asking on the GT3 forums but it really is an enthusiast game.

Thanks for all your replies, Serving meat and pies behind a deli may soon pay off.

Ow man, Amazon are gonna deliver GT3 and Smackdown 5 asap and it will take 2 weeks for my PS2. Thats gonna hurt, still, saving myself £40 online wont.

 Mage

Oh yeah, you're a newb., welcome!:p

Probably the best physics in any game on the PS2.. And with GT4 it'll probably just be the best physics in any game..

I say, buy a toyota or a VW.

Just watched a trailer for it. theres a bit where this supercar flies past the inside of 2 cars on a bend and slams the anchors just before this other car.

Pro move, ill stop talking rubbish now and go and play the waiting game on my own.,

Mage ;)

I bought my PS2 specifically for GT3, and that was when they were still about £300. Worth every penny.

I bought GT3 and a PS2 on the same day back in April of 2002. I'm nearing completion of my first trip through the game, and I rarelyt play anything else. Well, except for the driving/flying aspects of other games for my wife and kids.

GT3 is that good. You won't be sorry. Good work earning the money and enjoy playing with what you've bought!

Well from my own experience..... defineately worth it. I think I'm on my third PS2 and it looks like it might be bout ready to die. I bought one the day they came out in America and those one's had cooling probs and dvd reading probs. Second one probably got tired of GT3 being played all the time. This third one's getting a workout from the EA Sports lineup. I am still using my original copy of GT3 which I think I got the day it came out here too. These things not only serve as the best gaming console in my opinion but they play DVD's as well.

I got both gt3 and the ps2 at once too! only then in the autumn of 2001, i got the ps2 for 50% of the real price and some games for 50% of the real price too! ~230 eur. for the ps2 !:D

Im Gettin a Silver PS2. They look pretty, there £10 more but come with an extra controller.

Money Rocks, everyone should have some.

rock on :D

I waited and waited on the purchase of a PS2; since it's a lot cheaper than it was, say, 3 years ago...you won't regret the purchase.

GT3 isn't the best of the GT series, but it's still the best racing game out there. And Grand Theft Auto: Vice City won't disappoint you either.

So both games for under US$50, $20-25 for a memory card. That should be plenty of entertainment for at least a year.

I'm a racing fool, I have GT1, GT2, and GT3, and I'm very impatiently waiting for GT4. I also have Colin McRae Rally for PSone, and 24 Hour of LeMans.
LeMans has some very cool tracks, but GT3 has the best physics of any of the driving/racing games that I've played.
Plus the replays are worth the price of admission, now that the game has gone to "greatest hits".

The PS2 is such an awesome platform, and the controls for most of the games are way more intuitive than any of the other consoles.
I have HUGE hands and I ABHOR the controller for the X-Box. Only Lennox Lewis has hands big enough to comfortably use the controller for the X-Box.

I finally have my PS2 having had GT3 for about a week now.

Just bout a Yaris 1.5 and squeezed a bit more horsepower out of it but I cant help feeling the Mazda was a better choice.

As im only 0.1% of the way through i still have a while to go.

What cups should i be entering at first? I seem to be winning by qualifying well and just blocking the other cars at the moment but im having a great time.

Silver PS2 looks good and blends in nicely with my DVD, VCR, TV combo. :)

When you get going and have the right licence win the Amature stars and stripes, you'll win a Spoon S2000 race car, give it a turbo and it'll win the Beginner GT World cup, the Stars and stripes isn't hard to win, you need an American car though.

Call me sad but i properly made my Yaris "Gangster"

Black Mica paint with Red rims, looks cool.

Thanks for the advice, this forums so much better than most others you find around the net. Im happy to be here.

wooo, 0.3% now.

First you should win all the smaller cups like the Sunday and the Clubman, the MX-5 is a much better car than the Yaris, if youre sticking with the Yaris you'll need to do some work on it for it to be competitive in anything really but the beginner FF cup shouldn't be too hard.

Your coming here to ask people, who play GT3 everyday, 2 and a half years after its release. And who have also come to this site anytime they're near a computer for god knows how long; and ask them if GT3 is worth the money!

I hate to do this when you specifically asked us to be friendly, but...

The reason I bought a PS2 was because of GT3, but I was so sad because there were no available copies in my country, and when I found only one copy left on a store, and the only money I had was for a 512MB RAM for my computer, I said "the hell with the RAM" and I bought my GT3, I play it everyday even though I have 100% complete, about 12,000,000+Cr now :D
