Hi all, thanks for stopping by! :)

I thought is would be a cool idea to make a list of all the Rotary vehicles that can be won in the game in various colors NOT listed at the dealer. So far, I have won NONE of them, so I'm afraid I can't start the list. :(

Anyone... anyone... Bueller...

Well, the RX-7 LM is the only thing not listed at the dealer. But two of the ones listed aren't purchasable.

There is the second gen RX-7
The varioius third gen RX-7s
The RX-7 LM Race Cars
The RX-8
And the 787B

About the colors ... I have no idea what all is available. There are a lot of colors that you can't get at the dealer, but I don't know if that applies to all the cars or just certain ones.

Alright here's my list:
RX-7 RZ:
Sparkle Green metallic
sunburst yellow

RX-7 RS:
Camellia Red
Gold Metallic

RX-7 LM(guesses taken from hybrid program):
Silver
green
yellow
black
blue

RX-8:
EVOLV purple metallic
Black mica

I wish they had more rotors, dont you guys.
 
And the 2nd gen RX-7 prize car is the same as the dealer one, no speacial colors(not an exe car), and the 787B is only 1 color.
 
yea, they needed to have the 1st gens, the RX-3, the Cosmo(I like the newer 1, but both would be better), and the REPU, Rotary Pickup truck.
 
Well one thing I like is that when you change gears on a rotor at least in real life the RPMS dont drop too much and it feels like you dont loose power.

I've got a RED RX-7 LM, but I didn't know there was a yellow one. Now I've got to get that to complete my set.

A 1.3 liter engine weighing in at around 200lbs, the size of which allows for front-mid placement for better front/rear weight distribution, and keeping the vehicle weight under 3000 lbs.

Great response to forced air via turbo.

The possibility of hydrogen fuel in conjunction with the use of the rotary.

It makes most people ask "how many cylinders?" at least twice before they give up trying to understand.

People think there is a keg of beer under the hood with squirrels that power the car.

And besides, it's a very unique and worthwhile powerplant, and important milestone in automotive history. Its very possibly a viable mass production alternative fuel engine, which may carry the rotary on further than any of us expect, and in to new heights in performance out of such a small package. :D

I just had to poke my head in hear and give my thumbs up to some fellow 'wankels'. :) :p

I'm a huge rotary engine fan and have always enjoyed games with rotary engined cars in them. From obscure Japanese NTSC games like 'Epoch Shas Greatest 70's' which had an old R100 in it, throught to games like NFS and Peak Performance which featured some RX7's. GT brought this to a whole new level and i've never looked back since :D

Got nothing really to add to this thread but the praise that the rotaries deserve.

Loud-I was guessing on the colors of the LM, the hybrid program allows you to change colors, and the LM has no names for the colors, so I guessed based on the RGB readout.

I have a white RX8 in my garage. Don't forget that other manufacturers have used rotary power as well, notably NSU on the RO80 and Citroen on the GS.
 
Are rotary engines harder to repair than standard engines?

A while back, I started a list of RX-7 video games on the RX-7 Mailing list. Steve Cirian archived it here:

But they don't anymore. ;) Generally, for game licensing, manufaturers will only include cars they still sell, or those that will positively affect the sales of their current line. The cars you mention, although rotary and very cool, were pretty much ecomnomic failures.

There have been various rotary motorcycles as well. :)

Back on topic: Colors of rotary cars in GT3, so we can collect them all! Whoa! That sounded too much like a Pokemon thing...

No. Easier in most regards. The bad part is that when something internal fails, the whole motor has to be disassembled. The good part is that it is very easy to disassemble when compared to a boinger... I mean piston engine. ;)

Just remember: Heat is not your friend. Neither is detonation/pinging/knocking. Avoid them at all costs, and you will enjoy the rotary. :)

Now, car colors? ;)

All I can remember is the Gold Coloured RX7-RZ that you win in the Japan championship at the star of amature league.

It's from this '70s rotary TV commercial, featuring the RX-4 wagon. The chorus to the song goes:

"The piston engine goes 'boing, boing, boing' (while a kid jumps on a pogo stick), but the Mazda goes "hummmm".

I'd attach the whole commercial in .mpg or .avi format, but the forum doesn't seem to support that. :(

I have the audia file of just the chorus too, but the forum doesn't seem to support that either...

The gold RX-7 is the RS. RZ comes in White, green, and yellow, yellow looks the best on the car.

Well most of the GS were bought back and scrapped! Both had a tendancy to eat rotor tips as well so as you say were economic failures. Too slow for a racing game too :D
 
And a bone stock Mini Cooper isn't? :D

I'd like to see those cars too, but odds are there is no money in it for anyone. :(
