Has anybody tried to find out if there is a noticeable difference between racing with a full tank and a half-empty tank in endurance races ? If it makes a difference, racing with a tank half empty would be great to save time and lessen tire wear.

By the way, what is a "tranny" ? I can't find this word in a dictionnary.

(thx in advance)

I can't help you on the first one, but for the second one I can.

"Tranny" is an informal way of saying "Transmission" from what I know so far.

Have been thinking about this as well, but I don't find any differences between full and almost empty gas-tank. Not that I was looking for it that hard...

A Tranny is an abreviation for transmission.

OK, thanks for the explanation.

As for myself, I haven't noticed any major difference between an empty and a full tank. So that would mean that the game doesn't use this parameter. Too bad. 30 to 40 kilograms makes a huge difference.

I would keep a full tank cause if your running on Super Hard tires (which I do) You're out on the track alot longer and use up alot more fuel. When I come in for a pit stop I have about 15-20 of gas left.

So whats the point in fuel cinsumption, your tyres always run out before your fuel anyway.

When I would pit, I'd just get a little fuel. Usually just enough to stay three bars over a half tank. When it was time for new tires, usually I was down to a half tank, and I'd just repeat the process. By the time my tires were changed, I had the amount of fuel I wanted. I liked doing that because it kept me from pitting too long.

it do makes a differince look at your lap times then you will see

Not always true. My Audi R8 on the Nurburgring with super hard tires will outlast my gas tank. He will pit with only 3-4 gas left but still have tread left on the tires. He pits cuz he'll run out of gas. And that's on b-spec set to cruise.

What happens if you run out of gas?

it does matter specially in formula gt, i run 1/3 of the gas tank and i'm faster by 1 sec to the other cars running on steady in b-spec. but thats just me or i barely notice it in other cars ??!!

1 the wieght of the car you see in garage is dry wieght (not sure about oil) but its without fuel

2 fuel does matter, but this depends on your driving style - if you drift alot you wount notish it as much as if you drive idle lines

3 fuel added more game in pitstop stratigi ...

4 if you draft you will use less fuel and get higher speeds, but use more tyre... due to the lag of downforce

Appi : I haven't noticed any difference, that's why I was asking. Because I haven't done any testing: too busy finishing the Formula GT championship.

Concerning in-pit strategy, it is obvious that it's a silly thing to waste time refuelling completely if the tires wear faster than you burn fuel. In this case, the time the tires are changed, the tank is full enough. By the way, to stop refuelling juste press X while in pit.

Smitty : When you run out of fuel, you slow down to 80 km/h, but you don't come to a complete stop (nice feature from PD). Very nasty thing if it happens in the middle of the Ring. I don't know how the game behaves if you drive backwards to the pit.

Holy crap, and I was thinking they were talking about transsexuals all the time. Whew, good to hear that, takes some worries off my paranoid brain!

yes, with the safe search feature off you wont see an actual transmission until the third page of results. :scared:

and even then, there are only 2 or 3 transmission pictures on that page. :yuck:

Well thanks for lulling me into false security... I clicked the damn link and my safe search is off :'(

I asked this question a while ago. For more responses do a search for a post called "Fuel and weight ratio" I can't remember if it has a deffinate answer, but it may help.

u r limited to 50 MPH when u run out of gas uintil u get back to pit road. Long way to go around the 'Ring when fuel tank empty. Iv'e had to do this before. IT SUCKS!
