If they really want to make Subaru more prominent, then they have to get better designers. Their cars are so ugly right now. They had it spot on with the 2003 Legacy. The next two were rubbish.

Subarus are dorky cars, they swing towards handsome rather than beautiful.

I'm not a fan of the current or 5th-gen Legacy, the 3rd-gen Forester, or the Tribeca, but I think Subaru's current design language is fantastic...though I'm apparently in a minority for appreciating the '10s trend of chunky and "overstyled" cars, especially compared to the melty blobs and underbaked concept-to-street cars that defined the '00s.

Subaru designs have become more respectable in the past few years. The current WRX STI is the best looking since the GDB and the Levorg uses elements from the WRX in a more subtle manner. Even as an estate, the Levorg still has a nice rear end:

I think at the moment the designs are improving - the Levorg is fantastic, as with the WRX and STi as with their mainline cars such as the Forester. However I think the entire era of 2003 to around 2011 or so was a dark period for them. The Impreza, Tribecas and last few Legacys were truly awful. Despite my bias I would really only call the SVX truly 'beautiful', I feel Subarus have always been a bit more form over function, or purposeful, shown by the more blander designs of past, or the performance orientated cars.

To me, a Subaru shouldn't be flashy. The original Impreza looks as good as the base model as it does bewinged. The bug-eye that followed only ever looked acceptable as the WRX and up. The current range has creases and angles that don't have the conservative elegance that the SVX or 2003 Legacy had.

Current designs aren't ugly, but I will say they are pretty plain Jane at the moment, save for the BRZ.

Indeed; Subaru's line up at the moment is conservative. There's nothing that makes them stand out from the others until you look at the spec sheet and maybe consider AWD to be a worthwhile detail. Certainly, it's a lot better than the last lineup they had which was actually ugly at its worse. Thank god they dropped the Tribeca.

The BRZ on the other hand is ugly.
