Fun Racers Mini Cooper Surprise :o)

Time:
Thursday July 21st: 6:30pm US PDT / 9:30pm US EDT
(Fri 2:30am BST/GMT+1 / Fri 3:30am CET / Fri 10:30am Tokyo/Perth / Fri 11:30am Sydney)

Everyone is welcome! :D

Short series of sprint races with the Mini Cooper from the Recommended Garage List.
The car will be ready to pick up in the garage when you arrive, you just need to pick a colour, select the tires allowed, & set your preferences in the driving aids. Driving aids are allowed!
Tires allowed will be Comfort Soft

You will not know what track we will be racing on until you arrive. That's the Surprise! :o)

There will be a warm-up / qualifying time of about 15 minutes before the 1st race.
Race #1: About 10-15 minutes damage weak
Race #2: About 20-25 minutes damage heavy
With more races like Race #1, for anyone who wants to stick around, probably about 1-1/2 to 2 hours.
(Penalty setting (off or weak) will depend upon the track. Oops, I guess I gave away that as of this time I haven't actually picked a track yet! lol ;))

The race will be held in my lounge, so add me if you haven't done so already.

Please do NOT join the room before the scheduled time, as this might cause problems in the setup. And please do remember to clear network cache and restart your PS3 before joining.

There will be no points awarded. Please try to keep the racing as clean as possible. But don't be too alarmed about the odd bump, alright? Chatter while driving is more than welcome, so grab your headset.

Please post below if you are interested, even if you are already a member of the club, and/or have raced before. A few is good, but the more the merrier.

Hmmm - I didn't look. But I think there's just the one Mini Cooper available in the Recommended Garage. Am I wrong?

Oh, if you don't know what I mean - you do NOT need to buy the car at all. It's a recommended list race.
 
First time I checked out the list of recommended cars. This looks like a ton of fun and right up my alley. Count me in. As a side note, they are all premium cars for anyone wondering.

PS: How do I clear the cache?
 
When you say driving aids, does that mean Skid Recovery Force is on as well? That is one of the aids where if anyone is going to use it, everyone pretty much should as it definitely makes for lower lap times.

In the options screen, scroll down as far as you can go...and there it is...then restart your PS3. We have found that this simple procedure really makes for better connections. There are other ways of improving the online experience which involve changing your router settings ...see youtube...but this seems enough for me...I think there has been a vast improvement generally regarding the servers but who knows...consider yourself invited to the 'Fun racers'..
 
Sorry, feeling a little slow here, what do you mean by the options screen. Is that a PS3 screen or a GT5 screen?
 
Sorry not clear enough you do it 'in game'...select options you can change various settings for controllers, wheels etc. down the bottom you can clear cache in internet options...i think...doesn't effect any saves just clears 'the junk that accumulates when you play online' which must have an impact on the quality of the uploading/downloading speeds??? don't know but it seems to work.

RE: aids & SRF
The idea is to make these type of Fun Racers races accessible to beginners & casual players, to be able to race with more experienced racers, and be competitive together in a 1-make race.
In other words, on Monday Surprise Nights - for example, NOT EVERYONE uses SRF or various aids. And some of the people who don't, are faster generally!!
So it sort of makes it so the less experienced can be competitive, and the more experienced can have a challenge too.

Personally, I think I can do fine (depending on the competition) in the Mini Cooper without SRF. But let's put it this way... I don't think I'm completely horrible racer... But there was one car we used on Monday Surprise Nights a few weeks ago, that I found it absolutely necessary to use SRF in order to be at all competitive against the others - some who were using SRF, some who were not.
 
Thanks to all who participated! Great fun on Madrid Mini Reverse... and the other tracks.
(May not choose Madrid Mini Reverse with heavy damage again, that's for sure. lol I spent more time in the pit than on the track!)
