I didn't bother with CoD: AW. Not my cup of tea, at all. Got my hands on CoD Ghosts (first CoD I got in a while) and was bored out of my mind halfway through the first mission. Storytelling felt atrocious (USA being overrun by South America and you're now some sort of guerilla homeland defender? Gimme a break...) and there was little in terms of gameplay that made me go "wow, that's interesting!" So, naturally, I skipped CoD: AW. Stuffing their characters in some poor man's nano suit didn't intrigue me.
As for games I'm looking forward to: Evolve and the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in February. Project CARS might or might not be out in March (was pushed back recently, so there's no saying it's not gonna happen again). With Heroes of the Storm entering closed beta soon, I'd consider a 2015 release likely - having a DOTA-like game that brings a little more variety to shake things up might get me into the genre again. And while I'm going on about Blizzard's games, I do hope that Overwatch goes into beta, at least - and that I'll get an invite. Looks like the kind of shooter that captures a bit of the old Unreal Tournament feeling with lots of traversal and a fast pace.
Then there's the obvious one: GTA V's PC release in January. Probably the one with the biggest overall impact on my gaming schedule, I'd say.
As for the future of gaming, it won't change much in the coming years. Technological advancements won't be very significant since consoles are hardware-locked and the hardware doesn't seem to have the overhead the last generation had on release. The PC will probably push to 4K gaming but will otherwise have to make do with whatever the consoles can run as well.
The only trend that might have some impact on gameplay and game design I've picked up on is procedural game design. Elite: Dangerous and No Man's Sky could potentially pave the way for those games. I'd appreciate that trend, as well. Might make for some games that are quite fun to explore.
Aside from that, same old same old for the foreseeable future. And by same old same old I mean more CoDs, Battlefields, WoW expansions, Far Crys, FIFA 20XXs and Assassin's Creeds. Meh.
