đź’ˇ What kind of engine will be the future???
Air engines aircar!!!

water

hydrogen

power cells (opel, Vauxhall)

electric engines, recharged by some kind of very sensitive solar or light panels

or maybe engines working on the magnetic field of the earth

or other possibilities

Maybe the car will disappear in time

My money is on ethanol. A renewable fuel that can be used on most petrol cars already today with some modifications to the fuel system. Plus that most people that are interested in cars probably hates the idea of giving up the combustion engine.

Fuel cells seems very good except for that the technique is very expensive.

I don't think the car will dissappear, we are way too individual as a species.

Duh, everyone knows we'll all be flying around in cars that run on garbage, which is then converted to fuel by trusty old Mr. Fusion. Its a fact, Robert Zemeckis says so.

One problem pepole do not realise is that the easiest and least expensive way to refine pure hydrogen for fuel cells pollutes as much as using gasoline engines.

Huh? What do you mean?

It'd be soo cool, if someone invented an engine that ran on urine! Run outta fuel? Just pull over and take a pi!ss in your car!

rockrapdude
when we would use ethanol will it run out?

No, ethanol is renewable. Ask all homebrewing winos.

Afaik the ethanol used today is made most from trees/seeds.

If Britain was to power its vehicles on Hydrogen it would require either 100 nuclear power statons or a 5 mile deep band of windfarms around the entire coast- Daily Telegraph.

Ethanol seems more likely. But does it mean more rainforest destruction for farming land. Land which is also quite infertile.

this should be on Top Gear

Close. There are already engines that run on the gasses produced by cow manure. The same principle could work for human waste too.

And, the technology I just mentioned was featured on Top Gear last year.

What a lot of people don't understand is that the worlds energy problems are not just related to cars... almost all of our electricity comes from non-renewable sources, and that's going to have to change too.

I'd like to see hydrogen internal combustion engines at first, with energy being created by solar power stations. Fuel Cells could be used later as the technology gets there. Right now we have all the technology to do solar power producing hydrogen, it'd just be a matter of spending the massive amount of money to do it.

The bio-diesels and ethanol and stuff... growing fuel just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. You'd probably end up doing a whole lot more damage to the earth trying to farm that much fuel... plus I don't like the idea of cars and industry competing with people for fuel. I mean, how is anybody in a poorer country going to be able to afford food when our SUVs are using it all up?

yeah, I know, I saw that one. But these cars weren't powerfull enough. And it is very important what kind of manure you take. + The earth should become overpopulated by cows.

I think ethonol would be the easist because it wouldn't be to hard to switch over current engines to run on it. Plus its renewable, mostly made from decayed food and plants.

Hydrogen is a good alternative as well, but it wouldn't save me any money.

Honestly, I see cars running on Hydrogen being available in 10 - 15 years but not going mainstream until about another 10 years after that..

Which is the reason that you don't do everything the cheap way.

No alternative fuels are going to be cheaper than gas currently is... if they were, we would be using them, not calling them alternative fuels :)

Well they're not cheaper now because they're not developed and there's no infrastructure. Some may have the potential to be cheaper after the initial development costs.

I don't think so, ther is still the issue of taxes!!!! And we all know how governments "think".

Here you can fill up your tank with E85, a fuel with 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline for slight under the price of what a tank of gas costs.

They have, in comparison to gasoline, low taxes on it to make it affpodabele at the same price per km. Also counting in that the cars takes 10%more fuel when on e85.

Flintstone car style!

What about a kind of wind power or even dirt power.

But hydrogen is the way foward at the moment.

The government where I live is so corrupted. They only think about money and can't keep their promises. They are a bunch of clowns, morons, etc....

Yeah, that's the way to go. Would love to see a F1 championship with flinstone like race cars. That would be a laugh
