I like that they are trying to make the cars less dependant on aerodynamics to make overtaking easier, but no where did they mention anything about increasing the tires' contact patch. I'm all for close racing, but not if it's gonna dramatically decrease concerning speed.

I think they should reduce aerodynamic dependency, but at the same time increase the contact patch and let the teams do engine R&D, or bring back the 3L V10s and freeze those. Although I loved it when FA blew at Italy, I would truly like to see all the cars finish the race.

Mechanical grip is overrated. All the best races occur when there is little mechanical grip available.

Ground effects is where it’s at.

And manual transmission.

Sounds like the car's chassis will be going back to their early-90's designs..

This sounds like a lot of rule-changes for the sake of changing rules. Changing the rules every year does not promote closer racing, nor do any of these rules have anything to do changes in safety.

For crying out loud...How do you ban wind tunnels?

2008: possible sporting regulations to restrict the use of wind tunnels and/or models for use in wind tunnels and/or test rigs (subject to the consent of a majority of competing teams)

Yeah, right. I don't believe that more than 6 teams would say "Sure, we'll use our - our - wind tunnels less." Those would be the very same wind tunnels that almost all the teams have invested millions in, building their own, over the past 5 years or so. The same wind tunnels that are owned by the teams, that work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Testing got cut down, but the only team that was against it was Ferrari, who have their own race track. But all the top teams have their wind tunnels, and they won't suddenly decide not to use them.

My guess is that teams will test individual parts of the car -- not the full car -- in wind tunnel test.

"So we can't put the cars in the wind tunnel. We're just testing out this nose cone and front wing assembly for laminar flow and eddying in case someone's interested in purchasing a carbon-fiber kite."

But if you just tested a nose cone on it's own with the car itself you wouldn't be able to guarantee the right results would you?

I'm against banning wind tunnels, motorsport for a hundred years has been about developing and improving, why stop it?
