It's not 'new', almost a year ago the Megane 265 set the lap record of 8:08, all the details are here

http://skiddmark.com/2011/06/megane-rs-265-trophy-sets-new-fwd-lap-record-of-the-nurburgring/

The most important ones are

BHP: 261 (265PS)
Weight: 1,387 kg
Tires: Sports Hard-Soft

And a LSD, which removes torquesteer almost entirely.

So, I know many of us here can get a car around the ring in less than 6:30, if the car is fast enough, but what about a FWD? I've never driven one around, mostly because the seasonals never set it up that way, nor does A-Spec, or anything else I can imagine, the only way to do it would be a free-run or something, maybe arcade?

Anyway, does anyone think, with that power/weight combination, they could beat the official lap record? Importantly, you can turn a LSD, but you must also keep on relatively standard tires.

The lupo cup car has one race around nurby, forgot which level right now. But I'm going to have to try this with my CTR or integra type-r tonight.

Have a look here.

There is a Spoon Civic Type R at 7'58 and a Focus RS at 8'06.

Here is a link to a thread dedicated to hot lapping the ring. They use several categories including Production/Non-Racing Stock where cars are ran completely stock as they come from the NCD/UCD with only oil change/engine rebuild aallowed.

This was the top FWD time I found in that category...
213. 08:06.287 - Ford Focus RS '02 (mike_gt3)

Of course mike is a total alien on the ring so good luck getting anywhere close to that time.:lol:

edit: treed:O
nice catch on the Spoon Daan I missed it.👍👍

I noticed while reading the article they said "have been lapping the 14.7 mile circuit". I could be wrong but isn't the version in the game 12.xx miles? So, wouldn't that make any lap time invalid in GT5 for comparison?

They might have been doing the 24 hour circuit...:odd:

Maybe, here's what mygranturismo.net says

the reg ring is 12.944mi.
the 24 hour is 15.757mi.
the type V is 15.182mi.
GP/D is 2.255mi.
GP/F is 3.199mi.

none of those add up to 14.7 miles. So i wonder, who's wrong here, GT or this article?

Can anyone else confirm my numbers in GT5, i'm away from my PS3 at work.

Okay decided to watch the onboard video (absolutely horrible quality at least on my phone. like watching a bad stop motion film) and it was the Nordschllife they ran. Started from the pits and a dead stop instead of a flying start on track.
I'm guessing that the 14.7miles in the article is a mistake since I find it rather hard to believe that with all the time and effort PD spent modeling the track they would get the length wrong.

Checked Wicipedi and it agrees with PD on the length of the track at 12.93 miles.

R1600Turbo
Not entirely true.

I'm just quoting the site, you also probably mis-read what I said to mean all LSDs cure torque steer, I was referring to the ability of this LSD only.
