A Windshield will protect you as well. There is no point in a canopy system.

That looks very good.

It really wouldnt be much different than other race cars. The GT ONe for example.

One problem of today's cars is that the drivers have poor visibility, especially to what's going on besides and behind them. With a canopy, they could lower the sides of the cockpit and improve visibility.

Closed F1 cockpits with fighter jet canopies I'm all for provided they can be released very quickly in the event of the accident. Just look at the improvement in safety from this FIA test video.

As for the Ferrari on the first page I think its junk because I don't tend to think much of concepts not sanctioned or created by the manufacturer itself, i.e. its fan art. Calling it a 'Ferrari concept' its just the creators ego.

Robin.

Did you at least watch the FIA test video? if you did you would know that what you are saying isnt correct...

In which case the canopy loses any reason for being on the car in the first place?

I think you may have misunderstood. In drag boat racing, the canopy includes the driver's area and acts as a survival cell in the event of a crash, the rest of the boat/car disintegrates on impact with the water/walls. It works on water, so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't on land.
