I finally got a g25 after umming and ahhhing for a while. 2 things come to mind with it on the time trial:

In options, there are configurations for lots of wheels, but no specific g25? Why is this?

Second, the wheel is so much more twitchy than a controller. I know obviously a wheel will take practice and is completely different, but I was so much more consistent with a controller. Does anyone else find this?

In the options menu for the wheel config on the left hand side, there are options for 'power steering' or something similar. The options range from amateur to professional. Does this make a difference? I'm a bit confused.

Also, does everyone race with force feedback? I wanted to turn it off (Although it is an excellent feature) because I thought it was a distraction.

I've improved my time from a controller by a tenth, but to be honest I was expecting more... like I said though I guess this will come with practice.

Finally, I assume all the top times are what they are because they are all toe and heeling as well, on top of nailing every corner? I could do with some technique help on this is possible..

Thanks for reading,

One last thing,

What button is it to turn off/on traction control by default? I want to make sure its off for the stock car trial.

Hard to tell if you are talking about the time trial or demo with these questions.

There is no need for toe and healing in the time trial as there is no clutch so no need.

Always have power steering off in the menu.

Really not sure why you would want to turn the force feedback off as you will have no feel of the car.

The point of a wheel is that you really need short smooth accurate inputs which are just not possible with a control pad and hence why the majority of the top times are by wheels.

I would really suggest you carry on with force feedback.

lol It takes practice, and really you should leave FF on since it actually does give a lot of insight about what your vehicle is doing or about to do like about to lose traction or whatever.

And in the time trial you can't turn off traction control with the stock car.

Sorry for not being clear, I meant the GT Time Trial.

The reason I mention toe and heeling is that the revs are always so high on the downshifts of the fast times, maybe they are just shifting down earlier then? I'll have to take another look.

Thanks for the info.

I'll try and cover a few points from my brief experience of the wheel.

Wheel button configurations: The G25 is a "jack of all trades" wheel, not specifically designed for the PS3, let alone GT5. I suspect this is why it doesn't support different control assignments.

Twitchiness: It depends. With 900 degrees of movement it's inherently less twitchy than a controller, though things like force feedback do make the wheel feel like it's moving on it's own sometimes, which you don't get with a controller. Overall though, it's a much smoother and more consistent method of steering. Once you're used to it you can achieve much more consistent laps, I've found.

Steering options: I suspect you get a bit more feedback with the different options, but my brother reports that he can't feel a difference. Maybe it's not been properly implemented yet.

Force feedback: Yes, I race with it, set reasonably high too. Once you get used to the feel of using a wheel, it improves your experience and does a reasonable job of letting you know when you're approaching the cars' limits.

Heel/toeing: Not really. Some people might be, but it's largely unnecessary in this game as the game rev-matches anyway. I've just been using the paddles, and I suspect the top guys are doing similar. I reckon people are just changing down early as you mention.

Traction control: Even though the menu says that TC is on in the stock car, I don't think it is with the G25. It's definitely on with the controller and it's very noticeable, but it seems very absent with the G25 to the point where I suspect the menu is wrong.

I also wanted to ask how to turn off the traction control on the Stock car. It seems Like you can't turn it off, but on the online rankings it is turned off when i check the Best drivers options. So i guess it maybe a bug og something

This is the case, discussed in other threads before.
On the options it states on, but the feeling is off and checking the rankings, it will state off, when using a steering wheel.
With the controller it will state on 7 even in the rankings.

It takes time to get used to it but your much better off in the end and i recommend putting the force feedback 5-7.

I see that it is a bug. When i see
my own settings in the online rankings, the traction control is set to off.
That clears up that mystery:)

My experience with the G25, is that turning FFB down to 1 increases feel. I think it easier to hear nuances when someone is whispering to me than screaming in my ear...

I take it you have always been a pad user? If so, then moving to a wheel will be difficult anyway, and you just made it harder for yourself by doing so in conjunction with the Time Trial :) I know when I first tried my Logitech DFP with GT4, I was so much worse with it, but I also had way more fun. I did go back to the pad for the more twisty courses, and ultimately dropped the wheel altogether due to lack of room etc. Now though, I have a bigger media room and will get either a G25 or G27 nearer the games launch.

Setting 1 works also nice with fanatec turbo s.
