i think all the g27 users were disappointed when gt5 didnt officially support one of the best wheels in the market
now shift 2 is released & i wanted to know how does the wheel work with this game
hows the FFB & can you make the game & handling more realistic [ the GTP Review said the cars felt floaty ]
:tup:Thanks guys im sure any g27 user that dont have the game right now would appreciate your feedback

Specifically for PS3 platform too, since we all know you can probably do something to change your experience on PC, but consoles are usually stuck with whatever came with it...

GTP said floaty - I say laggy,un-responsive and you dont feel connected to the road. Whatever word you wanna use for it, these new physics they raved about is non-existent through a wheel. - G27

Crap. I just called local GameStop and they are holding a copy for me. I have G25. I hope I can adjust it to my liking so it's at least playable.

I don't feel any of that at all, on my G25 it is as connected as any other games.

if load on the wheel decrease, the steering goes light, if the tire is beyond optimum slip angle, it goes light. in hairpins when I used too much lock it even sends vibration when the front tire chips.

thats too bad
i hope we can get some positive comments too i really wanted to play this game but it doesnt worth anything to me if it doesnt feel good with the wheel :grumpy:

Well that's better. I could live with that. I'll know soon enough! LOL... If it's at least as good as you are saying I'll be happy. I know it won't be GT5 level of FF, but as long as it doesn't wreck the game I can live with it.

G25 user here.

Been playin for an hour. The steering goes light to indicate loss of grip at the front wheels. Feels weird, like an on/off switch for FFB. Similar floaty feel to Shift 1, though improved. Less 'slidy' than Shift 1, if that makes any sense.

Clutch doesn't feel as direct as GT5, but then again, I haven't upgraded any drivetrain parts. I play with auto clutch off, but it doesnt seem to mind me slamming the gears in through the h-gate without using the clutch, just a slight delay. Heel & toe feels slightly detached with clutch take up.

So far, I prefer GT5 physics.

I've only played the Honda S2000 and the NFS edition GT-R during the first evaluation race.

Still working out some decent settings. So far I'm enjoying it. I'll be uploading videos to my youtube over the next few days...

seems like pc users can tweak the setting to make the game feel much better .. its sad that us ps3 users cant do the same
i was hoping for more positive comments but seems like no shift 2 for me....

thanks for the comment guys

Why cant PS3 owners do the same?

A lot of the parameter files for FFB can be tuned on PC through the game files. Nothing like that exist for the consoles...

Steering wheel drivers for PC also tend to have their own tuning parameter as well.

The wheel goes slack sensation is something I feel GT has not been very good at. And it is also one of the main source of feedback for real car steering as thats when the tire's self aligning torque peaks...

It is extremely unresponsive at times and extremely sensitive at times. I was somewhat forced to use a controller after failing miserably with my G27 which I am able to use PERFECTLY in GT5.

The wheel will take time to get used to in Shift 2.

^ sorry to break the bad news but that's actually realistic behaviour. If you understeer in a real car to the point of breaking traction the wheel will go light. Are other people experiencing this referring to it as bad FFB?

Thanks for posting videos. Everything I've seen so far looks like a trailer from a lame action movie. Hopefully the mod community will tweak this game closer to a sim. In the first shift game the car was really prone to sliding. I'll pick up this game on steam when it's $10 next year. Hopefully you can turn off the blurring of the dash.

it's a bit abrupt I will say, although the effect itself is realistic. it happens quite suddenly like the FF has gone dead, I think there should be a more progressive feeling when you edge towards the limit of traction.

Getting used to that now I rarely experience the grip drop off, because if you are having that you are overcooking it.

Everybody knew even before the game launches that it wasn't an "hardcore sim". Millions of posts, SMS saying on VIDEO where shift 2 is supposed to be and still i can throw a rock a hit a lazy whiner who can't even bother to try set-up a wheel.

There are to many poser fanboys who prefer whining instead of playing their loved "hardcore sim".

have you guys try to setup the steering lock for each and every car first? it has quite some impact.

True. This does help some. I have been playing since 9:30am and between races, I have been trying to tune my cars and my G27. The loss of grip is a very weird feeling. Although the replays don't show this, you can feel it. Using the wheel lock in the tune and the wheel lock for the wheel itself, will get you descent handling. Some cars are better than others. By no means is it GT physics though. It will take some getting use to.

The wheel is fully supported at least.

Playing it on PC with G27 using the recommended wheel settings from this thread plus Sensitivity cranked up a bit to 80.

Initial impressions, fun game but once again Slightly Mad Studios misses an opportunity, it's easily better than Shift1 but the wheel controls still have too much latency and the car physics as other have said are floaty, i.e. cars still feel too bouncy even on race suspension. GT5 physics are way better.

Still I will likely have fun with it as a simlite racer, racing the AI, the great modeling of the cars and the great sense of speed make it a fun game, especially I suspect once we get past the unrealisting marketing hype and expectations some of us had (Shift1's disappoinment led me to keep my expectations low).

For those of you on the fence, here's what driving on Nordschleife on Elite mode, no aids, on PC + G27 + H-Shifter looks like:

This is not going to replace GT5 for me, but I will enjoy it for the AI and car and track variety.
