Is there a driver's learning curve for the G27 in this Game? This wheel reacts very strangely to bumps & road transitions. I know there isn't much tunability built into GT5 to support this wheels handling characteristics, but this thing is weird. Anyone have some settings & mostly the controller sensitivity setting or this thing is going back. Every course is like a loud clunky ride on patches of ice! $300 for this?. come on.

I have both DFGT and G-27 on the same game settings they feel the same except for driving the X2010 which seems to generate more feedback than any other car I've driven.
I find the simulation with effects at 5 to work well with the following caveats: I think feedback is too high for street cars and about right for race cars, while they have power steering the effort tends to be a lot higher and there is a lot more feedback(the real cars).
So overall not bad...my biggest complaint is how mine looses cal or centering when the car is hit hard(that seems to be the cause, I could be wrong) and then I have to unplug/plug it recenter it. Also odd is that the offset is always to the left...regardless of hits.
I've also noticed that PS3 initialization ends with the wheel perfectly centered but in GT5 it ends up 20 degs offset, but is ok when driving. So obviously GT5 isn't using PS3 settings

while it always depends on what you want, I should say I think the G-27 is twice the wheel the DFGT is in terms of quality and accuracy, especially the pedals and I would NEVER consider going back unless the game changes and requires in game TCS/ABS etc adjustment in some race like enduros to be competitive.

I think I've experienced something along the same lines when I have a had a hard wall slapper but the wheel does not lose Cal. My monitor starts a loud hum/Buzz until I pause or restart the race. So along with sloppy handling & clunking plastic noises when going over a bump---this wheel also reacts to crashes personally. Iam not an ad for Fanatec or Thrustmaster. What I'am is really pissed & disappointed with the driving experience the G27 has to offer.

Ouch!(for Logitech)
My loss of cal/centering comes after being hit with around the maximum amount of force the game allows: a Tank Car at 120+, Veyron @200+ etc hitting the side of a X2010. It may also only occur at one track since I've not checked others...
After my DFGT the G-27 is nearly silent and definitely quieter than my rather loud tower style PC. A bit of gear whirl and thats it for noise not caused intentionly by the feedback for washboards etc.
I also own the Thrustmaster Cougar F-16 HOTAS so I know their gear and while defininely superior, the T500 isnt a case of twice the wheel for twice the price, more like 50% better for 150% more. To me its biggest advantage is the in game support as opposed to the lame situation with the G-27.
I love my G-27 for the $150 I paid for it new, but Fanatec and TM wouldnt be in business if Logitechs wheels was the best for the least money for everyone. So if you dont like the G-27, check out the others and let us know what you think

OK. I tried the G27 on NFS2 & F1 2010. I can say with no doubt the accurracy & drive ability of the wheel is spot on. But the clunkiness of the feedback effect is annoying. In F1 you can damp it down effectively I think the real problem is that GT5 failed its many logitech owners by not providing adequate software support, button mapping aside.

To solve issues with button mapping, when you start the game have your ds3 or sixaxis set to controller 1.
This means you can use the wheel for driving, and use the controller for stuff like RA Menu, Wipers, High/Low Beam etc.

True enough - given the fact that the G series Logitech wheels are probably the best selling and most widely used wheels for sim racers, it is very annoying that PD in its infinite wisdom has chosen to not offer support for them.

On FFB, if you want smooth, I would recommend Fanatec belt driven wheels. My previous wheel was a G25 and I have to say I loved it. After 2 years being punished with rFactor F1 mods it sadly gave up and I switched to the Fanatec GT3 - in terms of smooth and realistic FFB, it beats the Logitech hands down.

For how much time do you have the wheel? How much hours have you put on GT5 with it?

I bought a G27 only because I thought GT5 deserved it. At first the FFB felt really strange and I didn't like it at all. But I gave it some time and now I love it and I always have great fun. Obviously it doesn't feel exactly like a real car but I like it a lot. I just don't like the FFB on rally and on the X2010. I usually turn it off when rallying. BTW, I use FFB strenght on 5.

So my suggestion is that you play GT5 with the G27 for at least 10 hours before you get to a verdict.

considering that there are people in the world who literally sledge hammer a perfectly good Lamborgini into scrap just because the dealer support sucked or some such, I'd not be surprised at someone deciding the G-27 is junk. Its all about expectations and perceptions which are highly individual, and who knows, maybe Logitech forgot a shaft bushing or such and his is junk.....

It took me probably a good 15-20 hours to adjust from a DS3 to the G27. It's worth it once you adjust your driving style.

One of the things I bought a wheel for was the hope that it would add a new dimension to the game. Well, it has but the feedback you get off an X2010 is excessive, especially in the Vettel challenges. What's that all about then? Can you mitigate it without turning off the power to the wheel? Is this a good idea in any case?

Anyway, apologies for the slight hijack but I'm loath to start my own thread in case the bandwidth police get me.
