G29 wheel jumping to other screen while driving

Strange thing happened today. In Career mode during practise or qualifying rounds the race screen suddenly jumps to another screen. The Options, Share or some other screen can't remember exactly now, and pressing the button to get back in the game provides no response. It's like it's stuck. If I fiddle by turning the wheel left or right it seems to want to activate the screen to get back but doesn't remain.

This happened mainly I think while driving (prior to the screen jumping) while turning into a corner or two, possibly sharp corners. It's happened a few times well this afternoon and been driving me crazy. Just hoping it's not the wheel gone bad as I love racing with the wheel and dread the thought of having to go back to the DS controller.
Any thoughts?

I was having a similar issue and found I was touching one of the buttons with the heal of my hand especially when things got intense. I built a barrier with 3M Body tape & some rubber magnetic strips
