Game corrupted?

Had to delete both install files for GT5 just now. The game would start but wouldn't go past the main screen where you select GT or Arcade mode. The arrow wouldn't even appear after the first attempt.

My question is: Unlike the first time the game installed off the disc this install does not appear to be going off the disc. It jumped right in to the 1.05 update. Is this normal or should it have installed from the disc 1st?
 
I've got the same problem right now I restarted it like five times and it just worked finally.
 
I'm having the same problem. Mine just quit working while I was in the garage, then I restarted and now I'm just sitting at the main screen like you. Can't be a coincidence...
 
I had this prob a few months back had to start all over again. Was gutted cos was at level 20 a spec and 18 b spec. Since restarting it I've got to level 27 a spec and not been bothered about b spec :(
 
it could be that your bluray drive is going out also, though the game reads mostly off the HDD it uses the disc also from time to time. thats what my problem was with my ps3, just went and got it fixed at a local repair shop
 
If you are using a Phat PS3 they are tending to have disc read errors on GT5 many people using them are reporting this problem.
 
Fat PS3 for sure.... Maybe its time I finally got slim.

Luckily I backed up my save. Didn't lose a thing except for lots of time on the re-install.

I have the 60gb i had the same problem,but i use to repair PS3's for a living so i recognised it may cause damage to my 60gb and bought a slim ( try your other games they should work fine mine do on the 60gb , it is just GT5 it struggles with)
