Game Downloads

I need help, for the past weeks I have been trying to download games on my computer. It wont work. I have Windows 2000 and a Pentium 3 processer but it wont work! I also have Winzip. Is there any special tool I need? It says errors everytime. Also, where should I place the games when I get them. I have some on my desktop but none work! Thanks.
