Game freezes

I have a frien who really is struggling with GT5, When he enter the special events top gear test track to do the 3 test. Every time he clicks on a single event doesnt matter which event, His machine freezes on a black screen and will not load.
i have had him to delet game data twice and re-install and this make no difffernce. once the disc is installed and then all the updates are added he can enter the events fine then he goes and loads his save data and cannot enter then.
Surely save data shouldnt effect this ?? could it be a Hdd or bluray drive on its way out ?
Anyone advise please.
 
Tried it offline? The PSN does funny things in GT5.

I know, but GTs servers still access info, even for offline events. No idea why, but it couldn't hurt trying. If anything, it'll eliminate a possibility.

Network issues can freeze GT5..

It doesn't matter what are you doing 👍
 
He has now disconnected from Internet and still freezes, Only on Special events top gear nothing else at all.

I think its Hdd or Bluray drive on its way out, he has just cleaned the Disc and loaded up his second account and that works fine, which to me suggests Game data or one of the above but then surely it would happen on all accounts ? Cannot possibly have anything to do with his save data can it ? as it does work before he loads save data after a new install.

Frankly, there's no telling. If the second account works fine, I can only conclude that it's save data related. He ever dupe or play around with the save?

No its the first time he has done a save file when he re-installed. Im going to suggest he send me his details ans save data and try running it on my machine, that should tell me if it software or hardware.
