Game Freezing Issues

After searching through the forum I found some folks have run into one or two bugs recently. I can't find any information on my problem so here's another tech issue post.

I've been playing GT5 for about 8 months and never had any problems. Just recently, before the last PS3 and GT5 updates, I was racing and my screen suddenly froze. The audio continued and I could continue driving (or pause the race). From there the entire game froze and I couldn't bring up the XMB and had to restart the PS3 from the console itself.

This same exact problem happened the very next time I tried to race. After encountering this problem a bunch of times I deleted and reinstalled all the game data. First race after the reinstall it just froze again.

Any ideas? I got a fat PS3, connected wirelessly and race offline. Frustrating to say the least (especially on the last lap of the Nurburgring in the Dream Car Championship!).
 
Ive had that same problem in the past with most games, i felt the top of my system and it was rather warm, cleaned fan, no different. I recently purchaced a cooling fan off amazon and it works a treat, you might not have same problem but you have same problems as i did.

Edit: im using a 120gb slim if that matters.
 
First in the TS...disconnect completely from PSN, see if it helps. I had the exact same thing happen with my fat PS3 and then it lasted a couple weeks and RLOD. Not saying yours will but that is my personal experience. It actually got the RLOD about 2 sec after the 4.0 update lol??

Usually when I disconnected from PSN it would "fix" it enough for me to play.

So you haven't had any game freezing issues with GT5 since you got this cooling fan?

I think it might have something to do with the GPU getting too hot. A cooling fan could help. If you haven't replaced the thermal paste recently that could be a factor as well since Im sure it needs it. In that case, the fan wouldn't help too much. How old is your PS3?

I've had my PS3 for over 3 years. I don't know a thing about thermal paste; never even of it. Will do some research. Thanks!
 
it just happened to me 1 hour ago. as i press click the quit button from the online room, it just hang there. and had to restart ps3. first time happen in 2 years

Before the thermal paste, just take apart some of the upper layers of the system (using a youtube video to help...if you have the proper screwdrivers/torx bits) and check for accumulated dust on the interior...a cooling fan might just try to overcompensate for a dirty interior. My 3 year old fatty started freezing this summer and then shut itself off eventually. I cleaned it out and have not had any more freezes. There was much more dust on the interior than I would have ever imagined.
 
I've been having freezing issues too. I've had 2 stint's on my 24hr LeMan's lost (1st was 3hrs, 2nd 1.5hrs), the 2nd was only 5mins ago. With only 1 hour left. My PS3 has been freezing on my browser also since the 4.00 patch. I called Sony they said I should wipe the PS3 clean (delete everything), which would be fine if PS+ covered all the account's but I'd simply lose far too many game saves in other account's (including my wife's). I've never had a problem with my PS3 until literally 10 minutes after the patch. My Playstation isn't running hot and not working loudly. 3 of my friends have been having the same problem with Battlefield 3 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
