Sonic The Hedgehog racing game idea that I've had for awhile. If you were expecting Go-karts....well...uhhh....

The premise: Sonic and friends are now all driving cars, real-world, licensed cars. Eggman’s holding a race to prove the dominance of his new “Egg Driver” robot, and it’s up to Sonic (again) to keep Robotnik in his rearview mirrors.

Races are conducted in various locales, different places and times. Touge battles, Wangan-style highway races, Street Circuits and road courses, Drift battles and time trials, all part of the run. Basic playthrough is similar to Electronic Art’s more recent Need for Speed games, as you participate in races that pop up in a free roam mode throughout different regions, while the actual races are more like Genki’s Kaido Battle and Shutoko Battle. Driving real world automobiles, and adding functional upgrades, along with fairly realistic (though no Gran Turismo, thankfully) physics is what separates this from less serious character racing games, like MarioKart and Crash Team Racing. There are Speed, Power and Fly characters, a trait since Sonic Heroes, but this time, it has more to do with the types of cars: Speed characters have ultra-fast cars, Power (Accel) characters have big Musclecars with fantastic acceleration, and Fly (Handle) Characters have light cars that grip the road like nobody’s business. As well, Characters have nicknames, similar to those seen in Kaido Battle. No CG other than automobiles and roads in the game's cutscenes, basically like Initial D, if you've even seen that Anime.

After you beat Egg Driver, you’ll be summoned by a mysterious “World Champ” to prove that you’re really all that.

So how harebrained are we?

No, It's an idea for an actual videogame that I've been playing around with for about a year now. It's nothing too horribly serious.

Sonic The Hedgehog racing game idea that I've had for awhile. If you were expecting Go-karts....well...uhhh....
That, when combined with the thread title, is either the very best inside joke I have ever seen or the very best unintentional irony I have ever seen.
I wouldn't want Sega touching it, nor would I want Sonic to be a Supra (the TVR Sagaris just screams Sonic). Now would I want any SatAM/Archie characters in it, because as awesome as that would be, Sega would just screw it up.

Not to mention, a 4Kids chara (Sam Throndyke = Sonic X, chris's uncle, and the guy with the F1 car.) with the Caparo. As for the Supra/Sagaris idea...I actually like the Supra better. I know, the Sagaris is wicked fast, but I can't see Sonic in a british car.

I think it would be a very intersting game that i would like to play if sega can take a page out of enthusia/foriza and the cars aren't to goofy. Would their be any modifications And I mean add turbos and stuff NOT LIKE GADGET RACERS!!!!!!!!!

Uhhhh.....well...triple post.

next time, use the edit button.

ANY-hoo, The gameplay would be simialr to NFS: Carbon...that is, the free-roam part, less the cops and, in some cases, the traffic. Physics would be like Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift, as would modifications. (No autosculpt, bodykits from real vendors.) There'd be some urban circuits, some mountain races, professional circuit races, and Wangan-type highway battles.

On Sonic's car...no, the CCX is too expensive a car for Sonic's tastes. I dont' see Sonic in an exotic; yeah, he's a bit of an extrovert, but I don't think he's a rich snob. That's why I like the Supra: something to tune with his own two hands. Or Tails's. Can't keep that kid away from a machine for the life of him.

I thought about the Delorean as a character car, but I've already got a "Doc." (Play on Doc Hudson)

Hmm...what about "out of time"...like the plates on the B2TF DMC-12...

There was a sonic racing game on the saturn - some was on foot tho.

I think something like this would be fun but i cant see alot of people taking it seriously.

Idea is cool tho, but a major issue is with an iconic game like sonic or mario the player wants to visibly see the character - if they were all in cars then it kind of makes the game a bit pointless.

Thats why mario kart is in karts so you can see the characters - maybe the cars in your game could be all convertibles.

Ah, a good point. I do remember that there was a Sonic Drift for Game gear, they were all karts. and then there's Riders, with boards, skates, and bikes.

But I think if the storyline's interesting enough, you can get away with it. Perhaps Star Fox/Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune type "talkie" characters.

Puls I don't want to see Eggman's big head blocking my view as I take the Wangan

Would this be in the Future or just a Alternate universe?

Also would there be any power-ups?

I don't really think that's appropriate behaviour with a rabbit.

No thanks. Sonic X was for gays and hookers. And, more realistically, stupid little kids. Season 2 was fricken' sweet like a Trans Am, though.
Anyways, Sam Speed was his name.

Oh, If only I had a job at Sega...
Could you disban Sonic Team if that occurs? Thank you. Naka already left, so you wouldn't need to fire him.

Ah, so it was an intentional joke.
Anyways, I would literally buy an arcade cabinet if Namco collaborated and released this game using the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune engine.

Technically, he was a Thorndyke, if I remember correctly, you could be right, though.

probably not. But my team'd be Scuderia Prower.

Yes, it was...I guess. I mean, I didnt' know how many remembered the original Sonic Drift. Also, wasn't WM:MT also worked on by Genki?

By the by...I just got some ideas for hidden cars...In a limited-production Nintendo Wii exclusive version.

Space Dynamics Landmaster - Dogfighter (Fox McCloud)
Honda RA300 - Plumber (Mario - I remember a Mariokart game where his vehicle looked like one.)
'59 Cadillac Eldroado - GUNNA WEEN! (Guess...)
Blue Falcon (Wheeled version) - Formula 0 (Captain Falcon)

Why not thow in some Ridge racer cars for the PS2 or PS3 version.

(Gotta Love the Pac man Car!)

Oh yeah for the wangan would you have actual Trafic? That would make it cool.

Well...If I could get Namco's permission, remember, I'm at Sega, working with Genki (Kaido Battle, Shutoko Battle, WM:MT) on this one, not Namco. I'd be more likely to get more D1 cars for PS2/PS3/Xbox than anything else.

((And if i DID include Namco cars in it, It'd be the Corolla and Hiace form WM:MT))

The Wangan, Route 99 (F1 Chase scene in Sonic X), and the streets of Station Square and New Mobiotropolis would have traffic, I imagine, and Hell, I could do that for the Nordschliefe, make it like a real-life trackday. Imagine whipping past an 80hp Fiat to be blown off by a GT3 RSR

And another Idea

HIDDEN IN CODING (Gameshark required)
GTPlanet Toyota 88C-V - Jordan
