Ok, here is my idea :
I thought it would be great if GTP could launch a new feature. A personal list of games owned by a specific member.
Why ?
I think it would be great if you know what games the others have and like. Example : Maybe memberxyz is somebody you meet in various subforums, you know him, but what you didn't know is, that he also owns that rare import bus driver simulation from Japan that you love so much. Maybe you can exchange hints etc.
Or you still play SNES games and enjoy them and you find out that the guy you talked with over months in the opinion forum also does.
Who has Xboxlive ? Who owns a NEO GEO ? Who imports game from Japan ?
etc etc etc
HOW ?
Ok, this is the crucial point. I think it should work like this :
Access should be over a link, I'd say
My Posts - Private Message - Add Buddy - My Games
This link should lead to a page with the game list. And here is my idea : It would be pointless if everybody has to manually enter the names of his games.
So I'd recommend a wiki-style solution : There should be a huge list of games out of which you can add a game to your personal list by clicking on its name ( or checking a field next to the game ( compare : personal message area : delte / move-to message etc )
And every member can add games to that list, just like Wiki works. Of course you have to add some information ( system, genre, region code)
Of course there has to be structure : What system and what genre. You could
create extra areas for the different genres and mark the system by a symbol, like this :
etc
Your list should automatically bring your games into a certain position : For example listing the games by systems and generations. Starting with Atatri etc and ending with Xbox360.
Of course all this must be in that Wiki system. Let's say I want to add Tokyo Bus Guide to that list, then I need to create a new genre called BusTrain driving simulations etc. Maybe new genres should only be created by mods...
Additional stuff that should be in :
- There should be a Xbox LIVE symbol
- A list of the systems you own, plan to buy in near future
- A number behind every system that shows the total amount of games you own for that system
- A list called : Games I play at the moment ( 10 games maximum)
- A list called : My top 10 alltime favorite games
- A list called : My favorite game series
- My first game
- At what age did you begin to play videogames
- peripherals : GT Force wheel, NegCon etc
EDIT : Oh and that huge game list should provide another feature : By clicking on the game you get a list of members who own it.
Rather useless for GT4 etc, but a very usefull tool for rare games and Xboxlive onlineplay.
I think that would improve the community and although I am not familiar with homepage design and programming, I think that the fact that all of can work on that project by adding new games etc would reduce the work for Jordan and his team to a minimum.
What do you think ? Can it be realized without too much effort / loss of system performance etc?
