Ok, here is my idea :

I thought it would be great if GTP could launch a new feature. A personal list of games owned by a specific member.

Why ?

I think it would be great if you know what games the others have and like. Example : Maybe memberxyz is somebody you meet in various subforums, you know him, but what you didn't know is, that he also owns that rare import bus driver simulation from Japan that you love so much. Maybe you can exchange hints etc.
Or you still play SNES games and enjoy them and you find out that the guy you talked with over months in the opinion forum also does.

Who has Xboxlive ? Who owns a NEO GEO ? Who imports game from Japan ?
etc etc etc

HOW ?

Ok, this is the crucial point. I think it should work like this :

Access should be over a link, I'd say
My Posts - Private Message - Add Buddy - My Games

This link should lead to a page with the game list. And here is my idea : It would be pointless if everybody has to manually enter the names of his games.
So I'd recommend a wiki-style solution : There should be a huge list of games out of which you can add a game to your personal list by clicking on its name ( or checking a field next to the game ( compare : personal message area : delte / move-to message etc )
And every member can add games to that list, just like Wiki works. Of course you have to add some information ( system, genre, region code)

Of course there has to be structure : What system and what genre. You could
create extra areas for the different genres and mark the system by a symbol, like this :

Arcade Racing :
[SNES]Mario Kart (jp)
[PS2]Ridge Racer V(pal)
[PS2]NfSU (us)

Realistic Racing :
[PSX]Gran Turismo 1 (us)
[PS2]Enthusia (jp)
[PS2]Gran Turismo 4 (pal)

Jump n'run :
[NES]Mario Bros (pal)
[XBOX]Crash Bandicoot : Wrath of Cortex (us)
[XBOX360] Kameo (jp)

etc

Your list should automatically bring your games into a certain position : For example listing the games by systems and generations. Starting with Atatri etc and ending with Xbox360.

Of course all this must be in that Wiki system. Let's say I want to add Tokyo Bus Guide to that list, then I need to create a new genre called BusTrain driving simulations etc. Maybe new genres should only be created by mods...

Additional stuff that should be in :

- There should be a Xbox LIVE symbol
- A list of the systems you own, plan to buy in near future
- A number behind every system that shows the total amount of games you own for that system
- A list called : Games I play at the moment ( 10 games maximum)
- A list called : My top 10 alltime favorite games
- A list called : My favorite game series
- My first game
- At what age did you begin to play videogames
- peripherals : GT Force wheel, NegCon etc

EDIT : Oh and that huge game list should provide another feature : By clicking on the game you get a list of members who own it.
Rather useless for GT4 etc, but a very usefull tool for rare games and Xboxlive onlineplay.

I think that would improve the community and although I am not familiar with homepage design and programming, I think that the fact that all of can work on that project by adding new games etc would reduce the work for Jordan and his team to a minimum.

What do you think ? Can it be realized without too much effort / loss of system performance etc?

I also think this is a pretty good idea.
It would take me forever to type out all of my games. I have between 175-200 PS2 games. :scared:
Then I would have to list the PS1, PC and xbox games. This would be a good way for me to keep track of them and update as I get more. It would also make it easier when people say "what xbox games do you recommend?" or "what PC games do you recommend?"

That is certainly a neat idea, but I'm not sure if the cost/benefit of such a feature would actually be worth it. Even if it was, I question how appropriate it would be for a Gran Turismo/Automotive website. It would be perfect for a "General Gaming" forum, but I like to think we're a bit more specialized than that. Additionally, I'm not sure how many people would actually use such a feature.

Don't forget that you already can do something like this with the User homepage in the Wiki. It's essentially free webspace and a free homepage, and you could create pages for the games you own simply by linking to them, and then put your name on a list of people who own the game.

First of all thanks for taking the time to read through my suggestion.

That is sth I can't really say. I simply don't know how much work it takes. My idea is, that all you'd have to do is providing a sort of interface. You know, putting a link into every member's signature and some webspace ( can't be that much webspace, since its basically just a list of words ). Then somebody with basic webdesign knowledge needs to care for things like symbols ( PS2 symbol for example), again not a big deal imo, we have like 15 systems and that's it. But I admit, I can't really judge howmuch work it is, but I assume that it is by far more than I expect.

Well that is a strong point. But we are all gamers right? I mean, that is for sure, isn't it ?

I had a reason why I thought about this. How well do we know each other here ? And how much more could we enjoy this site when we get to know each other better? Sure, this is just a list of games, but when I think of 20 random members I often meet in various threads and subforums, I don't really know what they like to play apart from GT4.
For example I'm very much into japanese racing games. And I don't just mean the ones that everybody knows, but Battle Gear, Touge, Kaido Battle, C1 Grand Prix, Wangan Midnight and what not. Recently I talked to Mdnite I think and found out that he shares this interest. In the unofficial and (meanwhile dead :D ) GTP chat. By chance. You know, maybe there are 15 people who also import racing games from Japan. I'd really like to meet them.

Next example : Xbox Live. We have a list of people who have Xboxlive in the Xbox360 forum. But let's face it. Maybe like 20 % of the 360 users here on GTP actually find that thread and post. And even if they do, how do I know which games they like to play via Live ?
Ok, you could say that this is a very special problem for a minority of members, but the PS3 hub is on the horizon.

Additionally, I'm not sure how many people would actually use such a feature.

Again a very important point. It's just a matter of advertising. When you add the new link to everybody's profile/signature then you could make it big and red with a huge "new feature" sign for the first days.

YOU certainly have the chance to make that popular.
If I put a link to my Wikihomepage into my signature... ... I mean you just have to look at the huge success of my chat ( although I have to admit, that I don't really proote it anymore, since you indicated that you might add an official chatfeature in the near future ).

And it wouldn't really work...

I kind of understand your viewpoint though. There is a certain chance that the amount of members which would activly support that feature is not as big as I think.
But hey, there is also a possibility for you to earn money. What we will give you, is a detailed list of what we like and buy. So you can sell our emailadresses to publishers and amazon and what not :D ;)....

I have to check out this "Wiki" you mention. Havent even seen it yet.:dunce:

BMWteamPTG
there are already sub-forums for different racin games separated by console :)
You misunderstood him. He was talking about a game list, or in this case racing game list in the profile of every single member, you know the games you BMWteamPTG personally own....

It seems like a good idea but maybe it would be better if users added the racing / automotive games they own only, because then it would be specific to the genre of this site.

From that you could list under each game how much experience you have had of it (for help purposes) like novice, expert and maybe a rating out of 10 (again to help buyers or enthusiasts)....

Lets do it this way: Jordan will create the feature. Then the people will do their list and the ones who dont do it get banned. :)

No, really. This is a nice idea and Jordan, I think it would be a cool addition

It's a well thought out idea, but personally I don't think I would use it, I have a lot of games and I to be perfectly honest, probably couldn't be bothered typing them all into a big list. I guess I might put the ones I like the most in, but that's it. The other point I'd like to make is what makes a gaems list important enough to be given such a feature, this is a huge site with a huge ammount of members some of which might rather see a different kind of list, how about a car's owned list or a favourite car's list or so on, this raises another problem of what do you do if someone requests that, many can be good idea's but if they were all to be accepted we'd have a site full of members with huge half filled in profiles and a slower running server.

I also don't think it would tell you a whole lot about the person, I mean we can pretty much gather that most members of this sit are racing game fans and like car's besides that, what can a game list tell you about me. I may be wrong, but I can't think of anyone knowing anything about my personality becaue they know I play GT4, MGS3 and BF2.

Like I said, it is a well thought out idea and it is a good one, but I think after the novelty of it first being put on very, very few people would use it and update it with their new games etc. Speaking for myself, I doubt I would.

Thanks for your input. First of all the Wiki concept - and that is the clue - will result in a huge list and everybody contributes games. So in fact you maybe don't even have to type in one single game, you only make clicks on a huge list. I personally have way over 400 (original) games and I tell you sth : I won't type in every single one of them.

You play BF2 ? I play(ed) BF2 aswell... Let me introduce myself : gunnery sergeant Wangan-san :D
So we could play together online. Hey, maybe you have an xbox360 and we could play a match Top Spin 2, a deathmatch Far Cry IP and later race through Tokyo in PGR3.
Most members have some special interests in games and this whole idea could work out great imo. It could be that you live4speed are a diehard Densha de Go fan and that at this very moment you sit in front of your traincontroller . And maybe I share your hobby. I mean...wouldn't that be great ;)

400?!? :scared: And I thought I was a total junkie at 25 games.

I think it's a good idea, but I can type them into my wiki page easily. I think the thing of selecting your games from the list would be beneficial for people like you and Camaroboy who have hundreds of games, but I imagine most people here are like me: they have a few consoles, and a few dozen games. Unless everyone uses the On-Screen Keyboard and they have to click for each single letter they want to type, selecting games from a list would be unnecessary for the majority of users.

BUT, if it could be possible to search all the member wikis only, that would create one of the features you wanted. Say I searched for Project Gotham Racing 3, I could see all the members who have PGR3.

No problem, you make a good point, I guess I can't really comment any further though because my knowledge of how hard it would be to do this and how much it would take for the servers and what not isn't that high, it's closer to non-existant.

 25... I think this is a cool idea, but it might be oveer the top for a few of us.... Like Max... maybe me, even though i might be able to name all mine.... but again i only said "MIGHT" I think this is a good idea.

But i think it should go like this.

Each person gives a list of ever game, or for the select few of us true fanatics just like the top 50....

And update your list every time you get a new game (it's all in one thread, to not clutter the sight)

Heres an Example:

PC:
Half-Life
Half-Life2
Guild Wars
Comand & Conquer Red Alert

PS2:
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Gran Turismo 4
Midnigh Club 3: DUB Edition

Xbox:
Forza
Halo 2
Tom Clancys Splinter Cell Cahso Theory

Gamecube:
Mario Cart Double-Dash
Metroid Prime2 Echos
007 Agent Under Fire

Gameboy Advance:
Gameboy Color:
Etc....
and you would list the games under each system you have.

^ Sad thing is that thats not NEAR as much i have or a few of us.. i even have more systems..

WTF...there is sth wrong. I just wanted to edit and correct a typo and this happend twice

Oh well videogames are my main hobby ( from the financial aspect, ok maybe apart from my car) since early 1997. I don't have 400 games for PS2, but I have oveer 15 consoles and many import games etc. I also bought a lot of stuff on ebay, so it is not that extreme as it might sound at first.

Same here... and I totally understand that atm Jordan has other problems than this idea...

Well, let's face it. A manual entered list won't really have big success. It is hard work and not that useful. The result would be that maybe 20-40 members will actually make such a list and maybe 10 will update that list. In the end we have a semidead thread with many lists.

Whereas my idea has a lot of features. Let's say the list would already exist and you just heard of it and make your own one. You simply click on you signature the "My games" link ( that every member would automatically have, if he made a list or not). Then you'll have a huge list of games for over a dozen systems, divided into genres. Then you simply click on "create list" and pick all those games you own out of the huge wikistyle list, simply by checking a little field next to the games' name.
If you want to add a game, which is not yet part of the list, you add it wikistyle.
Result : you have a list of for example 30 games. Let's say you own PGR3 for Xbox360. Now you simply press the game title (either in your "my games"list or in the huge wikilist and you will be directed to a list of people who have that game in their "mygames" list.
Have fun online.
That is one aspect. Rare games ( some retro classic or import games) is another important point. I own several games for example that almost have no presence at the internet. No guide, now review, no nothing. What do you do when you are stuck ? Well.... maybe YOU own that game aswell, and nobody knows it. Maybe you help me with just one sentence and I could go on playing.
There are several more advantages....

I agree. Let's hope it can eventually be implemented.

Jordan has lots to do nowadays
