We've had the PS3 up for 10 days and my wife has already burned through Ratchet & Clank: Future once and is halfway through again on Challenge mode. The only other PS3 games in the house are GT5P and MGS4, neither of which are going to be her cup of tea. GT5P is going to be pretty much enough for me for a while, though I'll defninitely dabble elsewhere.

I'm gathering from reading here that I need to get the following from the PSN Store:

echochrome
Stardust HD
LBP (when it actually is published)

So, any other recommendations? Her favorite games are the following types, more or less in order of preference:

3D platformers - Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, etc.
Fantasy RPGs - Dark Cloud, Diablo (not on PS obviously)
Oddball Fun Stuff - Katamari, CakeMania
Puzzle/Arcade - Lumines, Crystal Quest, Apeiron

Thanks for any pointers!

Pixel Junk Monsters from the PS Store is a great cheap game, I highly recommend it. It's easy to play (only requires 2 buttons) but hard to master.

You can play through the entire game with 2 players or 1 player

If you like it theres an expansion to download as well

Lego Star Wars is fun and can be played by either one player or two and the second player can join in and leave mid-game.

Uncharted : Drakes Fortune is a spectacular game. It has many elements that are pleasing to any gamer..Humor, Action, Shear graphic beauty, puzzle solving and during mid Aug trophy support...I enjoyed this game incredibly, and i highly recommend it to anyone who just got a ps3.

Her is the keyword here. I don't think Uncharted and Star Wars fall under the her category.

I would recommend Flow and Super Rub a Dub from first hand experience. Women love the cute little duckies and Flow is so non-confrontational that women feel comforted by it. Both games are easy to pick up and play and the SIXAXIS control will make them unique and interesting.

I'll cast a second vote for PixelJunk Monsters, and my GF really has a thing for Assassin's Creed.

Skate. is also fantastic, and I'm not into skateboarding at all. It never gets old, and the control structure works really well.

First off, I said Lego Star Wars. Big difference between LSW and, say, Star Wars Battlefront.

Secondly, according to Duke:

In my opinion, if she likes those games, LSW is at least worth a rental to see if she likes it as well.

Agree with TB on the Lego Star Wars thing. Kate loves playing it and she is far from a hardcore gamer. I even have fun with it because there is so much to do and explore in the game. Plus it should be able to be had used fairly inexpensive.

Also look into Folklore. I'm still unable to find it used so I haven't picked it up yet but it appears to have gotten some good scores and is an action-adventure RPG type game.

She won't have any problem with the "non-confrontational" part. We're talking about a woman who will smash every window and light fixture in an R&C level to get the extra bolts, but mostly just because it's FUN. Blowing stuff up is her favorite pastime, and she's better at it than I am. In fact, I'd call her probably more of a hardcore gamer than I am. She just prefers the more cartoony, over-the-top melee of the R&C kind of game to the gritty realism of, say, Black. And the martial arts games don't have enough guns and explosions for her taste. I'll give a look to LSW (or maybe buy it used) but for some reason that's not giving me the vibe.

I'll look into both Heavenly Sword and Folklore while we wait to see if Beautiful Katamari ever gets ported to the PS3.

Thanks for the recommendations! Keep 'em coming.

Again, sounds to me like LSW would be right up her alley. Guns? Check. Bolts? Close - Lego Studs. Blowing crap up with guns to get studs? Check. Cartoony melee? It Lego's.

All right - I won't dismiss it out of hand. Thanks!

What about Buzz! Quiz TV?

It can be played single player, multiplayer (you vs wife) and online (you & wife, or just you/wife against others).

Echochrome is also good, I have it for PSP.

High Velocity Bowling is a good laugh too.

PAIN might be one she's into if she likes blowing stuff up and destroying stuff.

Where on Duke's list did it say his misses enjoyed racing games? No where. Please don't double post either.

I know there is no sports games up there but one Kate and myself have enjoyed playing is Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. It's pretty straight forward and fun at the same time. However, I will admit it isn't for everyone. Might be worth a rent or if there is a demo in the PSN store give that a try.

As for PSN games I've found PAIN! to be pretty good, echochrome is a must, and my personal favourite Lemmings.

Remember, echochrome, Super Stardust HD, PixelJunk Monsters, Folklore and (best game name EVER) Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix all have demos. IIRC, Beautiful Katamari is being ported to the PS3.

What about Civilization Revolution. Wonderfully made. Try the demo. Have played them all. Thoughlly recommended

Lego Star Wars is a really nice game
If you really like Harrison Ford or doesn't like Lightsabers, you can pick Lego Indiana Jones, very fun too
If you likes cars and blowing up other cars, try Burnout Paradise
Fun as hell

Agreed. Kate loves Civ: Revolution and so do I. It's fun, addicting, and really easy to jump in and play.

PixelJunk Eden is a cool little game, everyone here should try it :)
