Game saves only to PS+ users now?

I hadn't played GT6 in a while, so I fired it up and after a few races I saved and then quit the game to pop my newest save onto the trusty USB stick, but...

...I can't. The sole option on copying a game save is to the PS+ cloud. And, of course, I am not a PS+ member. When was the ability to save to USB removed? Or is it some issue on my side?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The ability to save to USB has not been removed. When you go to the Save Data Utility, to save your game save to your USB do you see a USB Device like this picture below.

Scroll down one icon to find the USB option - if that option isn't visible, might have a USB port issue with your console

Have you try to format your USB Stick in FAT32 ?
(other mode don't be seen on a ps3)

I had this issue before as well, and for me the only option was to reformat my system and start over. I wasn't even able to upload to ps+ which boggled my mind concidering the game still played and saved fine. The only reason I was trying to back it up was because I had over 170000 miles drove with the wheel, and wanted to simply just upgrade the internal hard drive. Good luck and I hope a solution can be found

I hope you're not planning on using an USB drive to back your save file up in case you have to get a new PS3, or wipe the one you have now, because that is unlikely to work.

Oddly it's worked just fine on all four of my consoles.

Yes, that sounds odd to me. Or perhaps it was GT5 I tried it with.

The game refused to load the save file when I used an USB drive to move it from my own PS3 to the one my brother's got at our parent's house. The game told me it had been created with a different local user and therefore couldn't be used. It didn't help to make a user by the same name as the account I created it with either.

I just wanted to avoid having to bring my huge PS3 with me to a place that already had a PS3.

Lots of my games lock saves to user accounts, so I stopped counting on USB as a safe backup method in general. Looks like GT6 allows it, though.

Same trouble here with trying to back up only the GT6 data to USB. PS+ cloud option only. However, there was another option in the PS3 menu to back up the entire hard drive, or at least all the user data, onto USB. I used that option and it worked when I did a hard drive swap.
