So recently I've been hitting the practice hard trying to sort out tunes etc.
This has never been a problem before but now... Its annoying!
I don't know if its my PS3 or if its the game itself but here's what happens.
After practising for about 10-15 laps when I try to exit to modify something the screen just freezes.
Normally that little menu box at the bottom comes up with Continue, Restart, Options & Exit, that doesn't show up.
No buttons work now other than the Start button to un-pause it & the PS button.
When I un-pause it though its not automatic it kind of creeps back, the gameplay comes back straight away but the sound just gradually increases its really weird.
Oh & if I try to pause earlier in the practice, its perfectly fine. I've managed to properly pause after a minute or two but after a few laps it screws up.
So now that I can't exit I have to quit the game & start again which takes a while & is very frustrating.

So what do you guys think? Is it my PS3? Or is it the game itself?

Did you clean the Disc and blow the dust out of the PS3?

That seems to help my PS3.

Hi DC ok so practically it's freezing right, if it is its probably the PS3 but if the game is frozen but you can quit the game it's the game

The disc seems fine, no dust/dirt or scratches but I did clean it just in case & there's no dust to be seen really, so I'm not sure. I'll give it a go though, can't harm (he says until something blows up haha)

Hey Topban, Its not really freezing because that would imply that I can't carry on playing. Which I can I just can't exit. Unless I go to the XMB bar thing (ps button) choose quit game & start again. Its a weird one thats for sure

Sony says to vacuum the dust vents. You should never blow on them to remove dust, you are just blowing it all inside the ps3. The fan cakes with dust so be mindful on cleaning your system. I would use a soft felt rag or microfiber towel to wipe the case clean but always vacuum the dust from the vents. I do usually about once a month maybe twice depending on how much I play.

I have the same issue as you mainly with seasonals. It happen 4 times in a row to me the other day. Don't have any advice, just thought I'd let you know your not alone. I have seen a few threads like this lately as well I believe, so WE are not alone.

I've also noticed this happening after a hard crash. Anybody else?

Reinstall your game (Warning: backup your gamesave, your replays & your pictures on a external device before!). Then it should be fixed. :sly:👍

If not, your HDD could be defective.

Yup I've noticed that exact same thing recently as well. It might be a bug if you spend too long in time trial and the ghost recording gets too long? Not sure if that's the reason but it happened to me once after about 15 laps, so I try not to let a session run too long anymore :(

I noticed another problem on Cote D'Azur. I was chasing my Z06 ghost with an NSX, and every time I got to a certain point in the track the whole game would freeze up. Restart the PS3, launch the game, load up the same track, same ghost and same car - and it would freeze again at the exact same spot (just as I'm exiting the final corner to the finish.)

Guess I'll be getting the trusty vacuum out tomorrow & giving that a go, see if it helps. Thanks

Its a very weird thing to happen isn't it. Kinda feel good that we aren't alone but then I feel bad that this annoyance is happening to others. I'll try what others have mentioned & see if it helps.
As for the hard crash that's not what's doing it for me as I didn't crash.

Stealing my font & colour etc? Hmm? :P
Seems like it could be down to a varied amount of things.
I think I'll try a reinstall last though, more time consuming haha

I know what you mean. At first I thought the game was freezing due to overheating, but as of yesterday I can safely rule that out because it happen first thing when I entered LaSarthe seasonal. The weird part for me was It happened after a race (exactly what you describe), then when I rebooted the game I got stuck at the loading screen before the race 4 times. I rebooted again and ran a A-Spec Sunday Cup everything worked fine. Went back to LaSarthe and it worked again.

Different circumstances may trigger our problem, but my symptoms are identical to yours. (The never ending race)

I honestly just hope its a bug in the game. My PS3 is fairly new so I have trouble believing it's that.

I had similiar problem just before.
In practice mode for 10 mins, tried to pause to quit, the game paused but the pause menu didn't appear, I could pause/un-pause, but no menu so I couldnt quit. I had to press PS button and exit game.

I've had problems lately too. It happened 3 times out of about 10 races. It was when i was racing the Tokyo Circuit in the Civic Seasonal events. As soon as i would cross the finish line the car would continue to go round the track on it's own at 49mph. I too could pause the game & un-pause but no menu would show up. Only way to stop it was to restart PS3. PS3 restarted fine & game worked fine too until a few races later it would happen again. PS3 is only just over a year old & all other games work fine with no trouble at all so problem must be with GT5. Also my GT5 disc is fine & has no scratches or anything.

There have been many reports in different threads on here for the game freezing or a loading time that takes forever at different stages. I have problems with both while all my other games work just fine so it has to be a bug!

I've noticed 2 new things today, if I pause early on when it actually works & exit the screen goes black the the GT logo appears bottom right. I cant do anything but sound is fine, can hear car going round like it does.
Second thing I've noticed, if I got as long as about 20mins it stops giving me my sector times.

Update..
Hoovered the ps3 of all/any dust = no change
New copy of GT5 = no change
Currently deleting game data to see what happens

I'm having this problem when trying to buy a RX8. Agghhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

If you have custom tunes take em off, thus happened to me and my mate.

Nope no custom tunes so that isn't the reason for me atleast

You should definitely dust off your PS3. It could overheat and lead to that dreaded YLOD. You don't want that!

I don't think the game discs are at fault, since (almost) all of them have scratch-resistant surfaces anyway.

I've been having this problem lately. I had a fat 80GB PS3 for like 4 years, never had a problem with it until the blu-ray drive/lens failed. I ended up just buying a new slim 160GB PS3. Since I got the new PS3, I've encountered this problem probably like 6-8 times. Every time it has happened while running the Ferrari seasonal on Sarthe. Up until this morning, it had always happened after smashing the wall trying to cut the last chicane right before the finish. When I cross the finish line, the time stops, but FINISH never comes up and my car continues to pace around the track. Since then, unless I think I have a chance at a personal best time, I take it easy going through that area. This morning I was running that seasonal again, but I noticed when I crossed a checkpoint, my time never came up and it never told me how big my lead was. I had a feeling this was the same issue, so I tried to pause it and quit out of the race. The start button paused the game, but did not bring up the pause menu. Unfortunately I had to go to the XMB menu to quit out of the game and once again lose the credits and XP I had earned in the previous races. I've also noticed that the game and races seem to take longer to load than normal.

If I restore my game save data after reinstalling the game, all of the tunes that are applied to my cars will be retained, correct?

I think as long as you have your save data then yes, I've restored my save data many times due to wasting alot of money on certain cars & changing my mind & my tunes are still intact so you should be alright.

I'm currently in the process of re-installing all the game data that it pre-loads, after that I'll put my game save back on my ps3 & see what happens.

Mine did that right before I got YLOD. It's not due to system getting too hot in one instance, but many instances where it slowly erodes the soldering beads and eventually disconnects.

Not sure where you are located but you can generally find a PC repair shop that will re solder with lead base which is alot stronger and holds up to heat issues much better for around $70.

Ok so reinstall is finished & I tried it out for 20 mins, just did a little drifting session in the same car I was trying to test before on the same track & it was working fine this time.. The only difference was that I was using my DS3 instead of my T500RS. So to check that somehow my T500RS isn't just screwing things up I'll have to check tomorrow using the wheel

If you don't get the same problems with other games then I'd suggest it is you're Disc. If your system freezes like this on other games then that rules out the disc and points more in the direction of A system fault.

You sound exactly like me. If you do decide to re-install post back and let us know. After reading this thread and especially your post I'm more convinced it's a bug because so many people have the same problem. Can't just be coincidence. My PS3 is fairly new like yours and I have never had a problem with any other games. = game screwed. :grumpy:

I've been having the same problems as OP. My new PS3 arrives today.

I had exactly the same thought. If it doesn't happen earlier in your practice run, it's probably the replay recording that reaches a certain point. Is your HD maybe almost full?

@freezing with ghosts: The problem there is a corrupt ghost file. I've had that a couple of times also. It will freeze when the ghost passes start/finish. Why the ghost-save was corrupt - no idea. Happened on different tracks with different cars for me.

The most famous 1 to day is the GTAcademy track. Some people couldn't race against there ghost as the game would freeze, making it hard to know where you are losing time etc....

Everything is now fixed, Just double check & its working fine, so for anyone having similar problems try delete the game data (not your game save) & then re-installing everything. Worked for me hopefully it'll work for others.
Though be warned it deletes all of your replays so back them up if you want them (not sure about pictures though)

This fix did not work for me. Tried it twice in hopes that I would save some money. But...I'm transferring my data to the new PS3 right now.
