Hello guys, I'm new here and I have a question about how to record my ps3 gameplay at High Definition.

today I connect MY PS3 on my plasma TV through HDMI cable. At the moment, I have the EasyCap (USB capture hardware) and I'm not satisfied with the video and audio quality.

Here is some examples: http://youtu.be/VvSXZpz8vEU, http://youtu.be/UJkdGufYSdA and http://youtu.be/E2zAkmQLyWQ.

The big problem of EasyCap is the small and poor resolution of AV connection from PS3, the images are horrible. I could not read at my 42'' plasma TV.

So I think: If I could plug my HDMI cable to the EasyCAP, then I'll get better images and sounds. Then I bought this cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170753630386?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_2924wt_1363. With this cable I can Connect my PS3 into EasyCap through HDMI cable.

Reading some articles on the net, I knew about HDCP and probably, It'll not work because of this protection. So I think: I need a hdcp decode, so the signal of my ps3 will work on analog devices.

Then I want to buy this splitter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1X2-HDMI-Splitter-PS3-xBox-BlueRay-DVD-3D-TV-HDTV-1-source-split-up-2-TVs-/250971469659?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3a6f10b75b#ht_5029wt_1163.

According to the seller, this splitter decodes the hdcp protection.

Does anyone knows if if this will work to record my gameplays? Thanks for the attention and sorry about the long post:idea:

You can't get the adapter that has composite and VGA on the end of the cable. The converter cable is pretty much a scam(It's just a pass through and does not convert the signals). You can get a device to convert the HDMI's digital video and sound into analog video and sound(Composite and S-Video). This is a good example of such a device. Though the HDMI splitter you linked to seems to be a reliable product.

Though for improving the quality of the recordings I've read that doing it in this method with the HDMI would only improve it a little bit. I don't have much knowledge about recording from HDMI but I've found a nice topic here about it.

The right way to record HD video from the PS3 is via component video (not RGB or composite) out from the AV socket at the back of the PS3 which requires the right cables, and an HD recording device such as the Hauppauge HD PVR which will record in 72Op or 1080i. It ain't cheap however. You can't just plug it into an HDMI socket because of copy protection the only way is to remove said protection with a converter such as the HD Fury which contains HDCP decoding chips and will output component video in HD (and it's again expensive.) To be honest though you're wasting your time with your setup as the EasyCap can only record SD and any improvements will be minimal.

Heres an example in 720p recorded with an HD PVR:
