I Just bought prologue saturday and I'm really disapointed...

Am I the only one that find GT4p gameplay really more arcade than GT3 ????? at least with the PS2 controller.

few examples :

- Weight feeling of cars : GT3 >> you press and you feel the car trying to turn and have a nice blury feedback simulating the weight of the car . GT4p >> press the button and the car turns imediately without this really good effect GT3 offered... this is even more shocking on FF cars... looks like Toca race driver 1

- Rally : GT3 --> difficulties to recover from an understeering and slow weight transfert you have to force to get oversteering GT4p--> you're car is like a puppet you can do whatever you want with..

- braking arriving too fast in turns : GT3 --> if you're too fast .. goodbye.. GT4p : brake hard and turn .. the car oversteer but you can turn without great problems...

- oversteering : GT3 --> accelerate too much with a viper in a turn and you'll get a nice 360... and I thing IRL it's the same..
GT4 -> good luck to oversteer in this game... the viper behaves like a S2000 in GT3..

The only thing I find more realistic is the way cars are understeering.. a little bit too much but it's nice...

IMO, GT4p gameplay is more an evolution of GT2 style ... but we can not deny that GT3 had something more than GT2... and this is clearly missing in prologue...

So one clear question : Am I the only one ?

(moreover graphics are not really really so nice.. compared to the official pictures and vids... another bad point...)

oh, I forgot to say that I do not play with any assistance prologue offers...

just play GT3 rally and then grand canion.. you'll see what I mean...

Please answer only if you played enough to give an interresting point of view ! thanks...

I'll make my judgement on the final product thank you, judgeing the game on a demo is the most retarded thing in all of gaming.

i'd say i feel braking too late or what seemed "on the limit" in GT3 sends u here out - in GT3 u could break REALLY late and still get away with clean corner... here it seems kinda tougher imo

With all due respect Heero 12, GTP is not just a demo in the sense of it being a taster of GT4. Think of it more like GT3.5, there have been some improvements made, but there is still plenty more to be unleashed. :)

I've been playing prologue since Saturday morning and I must say that I'm very impressed with the improvements over GT3.

Rallying - I never liked the rallying aspect in GT3, as it felt like you were just driving on rough roads all the time, the car would slide, but not alot else. With GTP, the car is always dancing around, with the back end flipping from one side to another in the blink of an eye, even keeping the car in a straight line seems harder epsically when your taking jumps at speed (like you do on Grand Canyon). I also love the way the Grand Canyon has plenty of bumps and dips to throw you off course, never challenging. Just watch some World Rallying and you'll see just how close to real life this is.

Road Racing - I did notice that the handling of different cars was very noticedable, something I could never say about GT3. Trying to turn in too quick would only result in spinning out or massive understeer. With GT3, I felt at times that the car woudl go roudn the corner no matter what, and if I went in too hot, all I'd have to do would be slam on the brakes to make it round the corner.

The Racing - Generally this I felt was a lot better, I just got so bored of driving around in GT3, I never felt like I had anyone breathing down my neck trying to get past, or if I made a mistake then I'd pay for it. GTP really has improved the AI, cars may fall back if you get past them, but they are always just there if you make the mistake.

Graphics - I thought to begin with they were alot better, but I'm not so sure now. As I've been playing the game through my TV capture card, I've lost some of the sharpness, so I won't comment on them. But GT4's graphics do look rather sweet.

Sound - I never liked the engine notes in GT3, and felt they were all a bit samey, but in GTP they really do sound a lot different. I love the noise made when you start bouncing off the rev limiter. The music is a lot better, as are all the other asscoiated driving noises like, tyre squeal and the noise of passing past a building or wall too close :)

Replays - Not much to say here, other than they are as brillant as GT3's were. PD make the best replays of any driving game.

Cheers

Jamie

No, mate, I don't agree with you.

The AI is not great, not tuned for the tracks particularly well, but the physics are improved.

Spinning, oversteer, understeer, and tyre grip/response are all improved, as are weight-shifting and steering response. The cars sound crisper and more distinctive, the tracks are more detailed and better designed.

GT3's physics system is very good, but Prologue's is in no way inferior.

Physics and graphics are hardly the place to begin criticising GT4 Prologue. Perhaps AI, options, number of cars and tracks, pricing, etc.

But not physics and graphics.

The French dude reads English better than some of you. No idea? Don't think you should be judging it? Don't post! Have a great day.

Ive had GT4P and wheel since Friday.
1st thing i did was load it up take out my wheel and run the skyline NUR on citta for 5 laps.
It took me 17minutes, couldnt control the car and kept crashing, I was initially disappointed.
i then did the same run with the DS2 and was easily able to post clean laps, but had no idea what the car was feeling.
So plugged the Wheel in again and started a few tests.
Now after 2 days and only having done about 12 tests (all golded), I can honestly say That the Physics in the game are Far and away superior to GT3 but you really need the wheel to experience it, It allows you to feel when you are on the limit of grip, It gives you far better control, you need to be able to brake and accelerate at the same time sometimes, to get maximum control, you feel the weight transfer, you feel the steering get light or firm up, you can feel the oversteer coming, you can feel the car correcting itself as the forcefeed back returns the wheel, the feedback also lets the car flick out as it should, when you get it wrong, None of this can be experienced with the DS2.

I went back and tried to better my times with the Ds2 and havent managed to beat one of my wheel times yet, although still all golded, The Ds2 never gives you the feeling of being on the edge of control and you just play it like its an Arcade game.

I said it before in another post:
Without the driving force Pro, you are only getting half of the game.
(The half that looks pretty)
With the wheel you get the graphics and the new Physics engine.

Rallying: you have to force oversteer in rallying IRl, you need to feint the car and Slam the brakes Hard, to rock the car into the corner then as the back moves out apply the gas, this is represented fully with the wheel setup.

Oversteer: I dont have the viper yet but you can quite easily find your self getting well out of shape with many cars, I think this has to do with the wheel giving extra resitstance and movement (to simulate Rl) when you lose it and is an aspect not fully appreciated with the pad.

The graphics, are an old build and dont feature many of the new touches seen in recent videos, but are still far superior in detail and quality to Gt3 and ive been playing on a 36inch widescreen with RGB output, the stability of the Screen without any sleep inducing flicker Of Gt3 is a bonus to me.
Of course gameplay was not the main idea of Prologue, It is a teaser for what is to come, it is mainly designed to show GT enthusiasts what to expect, not in real terms A game.

One final benefit over GT3 is the fact the we now get the drivers height view point instead of the standard height bumber cam ofGt3.

And Heero 12.
Gt4p is a showcase for Gt4, the Physics engine in Gt4P is pretty much the final version for Gt4, so any judgements about it here a perfectly viable, the only extra stuff your gonna get in the final game are the Gameplay elements, more tracks and cars, with setups.

gt3s phsyics allways struck me as being crap, gt-ps are far better.

GT3's physics were much closer to real than GT and GT2's. That doesn't mean they are very close to real, but I preferred GT3's physics to GT1 and GT2's and I prefer GT4:P's to GT3's.

GTXLR, can you please explain, with more detail, how it's like playing GT4p with the DS2? You say it's more "arcade" feeling. Could you elaborate more on this? Try to compare the control of the cars in GT4p, to some of the cars found in GT3. Have you ever driven the Spoon S2000 Race Car (yellow & blue) in GT3's simiulation mode? I noticed it feels more arcade like to me; it's much more easily to control and handle than other cars. I always felt there was an entirely different physics engine in that car.
I, however, don't like the arcade version of GT3. I hope GT4p, and GT4, wont feel similar to it. It's starting to sound like it is. Everbody who claimed they loved the game had the wheel. Those that had problems with the game and it's control played it with the DS2 controler. I don't like where this is heading. I'm strickly a DS2 man. :(

Oh, awesome post BTW, GTXLR.

I'll agree with that statement. Up until the GT4p part, anyway.

What I didn't like about the GT3's handling was how sluggish the cars felt. It felt a little labored to me but, it was still better than GT1 or GT2, by far. It didn't feel very resposive. Is this fixed, or at least different, in GT4p?

SolidLifters its been a long time since i really played GT3, but also for the most part I was a DS player only, the problem for me with Gt3 was that it didnt have he same feeling as previous GT, im not sure what it was, the lack of speed, the lack of feeling, the game just didnt feel right, and i only completed about 50% of it before i became totally bored.

Now with Gt4p and the DS2 the the physics do infact feel far better than Gt3, the cars respond better and move much more convincingly, and you do get some impression from the game, that you are actually controlling a car, much more so than with Gt3.

That said once youve tried the Wheel, and if you have any experience of real world driving, youll appreciate it so much more.

The Dual shock allows you to make manouvers that are not very true to real life, especially if you are a skilled veteran DS user you can out perform much of the physics engine, and you would find it much more difficult to perform the same manouvers with the Wheel (more true to life).

Since I am now a wheel convert, when i went back to using the DS as mentioned above, i just felt the whole thing felt Arcadey and not true to life, which is what the wheel provides.
I did not mean to infer in anyway the game had become more arcadey than before, in that the physics felt wrong.

Gt4P & DS is definately better than GT3 with a DS, the cars take more controlling, but it doesnt feel a massive leap, as moving from the Ds to a full 900degree force feedback wheel does.

These are my personal views on the DS and to be honest Ive not spent to much time with The Ds on GT4p & Ill not be playing Gt with a DS again, so maybe im not the best person to ask.

All i can say to you Solid is while you are strictly DS man, I whole heartedly recommend that you make the investment and take the leap to DFPro wheel, believe me youll never look back. (although it will take some time to learn how to use it effectively when for so long youve been perfecting your DS use).
Opens up a whole dimension to the game.

Thanks for the response. 👍 I guess I misunderstood a little bit of your first post, so sorry for that.

It's nice to hear that GT4p, and therefore GT4, will play better with the DS2 no matter what.

I like to use the wheel but I'm not able to. Can you use something other than the foot pedals to accelerate and brake the vehicle? Have you ever tried it different than the normal setup of the wheel, like what you can do with the DS2?

Sorry solid,
Didnt appreciate your difficulties, and thought it was more a principal, so appologies for that.

im afraid so far, In Gt4p there doesnt appear to be anyway round using the pedals there are 3 standard setups but all use pedals, in fact it would be very difficult not to use the pedals.

There are alternative shifter buttons on the back of the wheel, but these become incredibly difficult to use when your throwing the wheel through the 900degree rotation back and forth, making it impossible to to keep your fingers on the buttons at all times.

Fear not, the Ds2 experience is definately more satisfying than GT3

Cool.

Thanks for the help! 👍

I don't know where people are getting these complaints about the physics from. Sure I'm not a total nit-picker, but it definately wasn't worse than GT3. I just can't see where people are getting this stuff from. For one thing, weight transfer effects have been much improved; that was the most noticable difference to me.

To anyone complaining about things being too arcadey and easy to control: turn off assists and drive the Lancer VIII MR on tarmac, McLaren F1 on tarmac, and Ford GT at Grand Canyon.

i dont have prolouge but ive got the toyota NYC demo and yes it does feel pretty arcadey, however the handling changes when you fiddle with the options so i think GT4 will fit everyones tastes in driving YAY

But turning off assists would make the game easier to handle. Well, it does for me. I almost never use it in GT3. ASM is pure evil, and I never use it. I also never use LSD. I use a little bit of TCS, but only n a few cars. When I do use it, it's no more than level 3.

TCS helps you, ASM harms you. This is porven by copmaprin cars set with TCS and without and then seeing who can get the fastest laps. I always race withough both though I just prefer the feel of the cars.

Hey Solid, just wondering about the reason why you are unable to use the wheel? You see I am unable to either so maybe its because of the same reasons? Send me a PM if you prefer not to talk about it here.

I do not understand how you can prefer the way cars are moving in GT4p with the DS2... in GT3, you have a real good feeling of the car... press one small time and the car slightly goes to the direction you want it to go... now it's more press and turn .. this is not the way it is IRL... we loose all the sense of weight GT3 introduced....

I can understand that GT4 gameplay is designed to best support the new wheel, but this is not something people will buy for sure... I enjoy using a DS2 and I will not buy a 150 $ wheel if I'm not sure I'll enjoy it... but I need to test it :)
