hey...i got a question...i got a friend whos willing to sell a gameshark for PS2 thats in real good condtion. hes askin 20 bucks. i think its a pretty good deal, but what do u guys think? i will need to get another memory card though (becuz i dont wanna change my non-cheating GT3 game) that is all for cheats.

?

Although you can build hybrids with the Gameshark-type device, I never found it terribly intuitive (at least on PS1).

It's generally thought to be easier (by me, anyway) with an Xport/Sharkport device. If you get one of those, then click on the uppermost link in my signature, that's all you need to know. Ever :D

Xport/Sharkport has a significant advantage over the cheat carts, in that they work by transferring data between a PS2 Memory Card (plugged into slot 1) and the PC - so you can use the PC as a massive, and I mean massive, memory card. And they're cheaper than an official memory card too.

No.

A Gameshark is a cartridge you plug into the PS2 which modifies the active memory of whatever game you tell it to, and is operated by a whole bunch of Hexadecimal codes you'll have to manually enter from time to time.

A Sharkport/Xport is a small box'o'tricks, linked by USB to the PS2 and the PC (it's a kind of bridge). You can transfer files between the two machines using a simple point-and-click graphical interface.

You should note that a common 'Port misconception is that it will allow you to watch GT3 replays on the PC. It WON'T - it merely stores the replay FILES on your PC. The only thing capable of playing GT3 replays is the PS2 with GT3 in it...

get a xport, your friend only wants the money, you can make everyone happier here if you get an xport, so we dont have to deal with the "i want codes for...." :D
