Gamma in GIMP Question

I was searching on Google and I found this:

It's there: Image->Colors->Levels. The middle entry of the "Input Values"
corresponds to Gamma.

Now, it would be under Colors->Levels in the newer versions of GIMP, and when I tested it out on a PMC-edit shot, it looked legal. Could someone who has Photoshop and GIMP test out if this is gamma adjustment please? It would be great for when GIMP users enter PMC competitions, we'd have all the available editing tools then.

I've seen it in the editing rules and wondered what it was, I'll try it out and see what it does. (I'm a noob when it comes to editing, of course.)
