Hi guys,

I was thinking about the stock shifter the other day....and with my new knob coming in the mail, I thought about improving it by creating a gate for more accurate shifts?

Has anyone done this and/or have a template/advice for material? :)

It feels the stock mechanism for each gear's gates is flimsy/has lots of play (or it could just be my shifter).

There doesn't seem to be any easy way to mod the shifter...all I can find are mods with bad reviews about noise or they are in Japanese or I have no clue even how to attempt it....does anybody know of a resistance mod that actually works without a ton of noise and isn't terribly hard to botch up? In other words a mod that's worth doing?

:)

I've been doing this for a few years now, helps a lot! I put a velcro (the soft side) strip on the inner part of the shift housing opening. Reduces noise dramatically and shortens the throw a bit. Mind you though, it should be replaced every 8 months or so, or whenever you start feeling it starting to flatten and feeling hard.

Here's a vid.

@AussieStig has a nice shift gate plate on his G27:

Excellent, I just bought velcro :)

Does anybody know of a resistance mod that actually works/is worth doing/not loud?

Have you seen this? I have done this to my G27 shifter and the feeling is a much more positive shift and I like it. The only thing is you can over do it, so watch out with the size spacer you may use, this governs the resistance factor. Cheers AussieStig

I watched the video but it doesn't say what dimensions for the spacer and also the o ring?

What did you use for yours?

Thanks :)

Hey I just did the spacer part of the mod, dunno if there is a difference between the G25 and G27 in that regard? I used a bit of hard cylindrical plastic about 4 or 5 mm long. The length is important because the amount of resistance is measured by how much you have to bear down when reassembling the shifter. Too high and the bearing can and will fly out and you may lose it.

I noticed at the end of the video, there is a link or mention of textual instructions, take a look at that as well. Goog luck mate and let us know how you get on. Cheers, AussieStig

Ok I got all the measurements.

Rubber o ring size reverse increase push down resistance mod
ID: 1/4" 0.25" 6.35mm
OD: 3/8" 0.375" 9.525mm

Cylindrical Spacer size increase shift resistance mod
Diamater: 3/16" 0.1875" 4.7625mm
Length: 1/4" 0.25" 6.35mm

I just looked one ebay but can't find a suitable o-ring or spacer :(

I can't tell from the video or pictures but is the spacer Chilicoke uses have a hole through the middle? Not that it matters...it just has to support the spring to increase resistance.

I think I may just do the spacer mod as I feel the reverse has good resistance already. Where can I get a spacer this size :)

Also does the spacer have to be cylindrical or can it be a rectangle? :)

My spacer was hard cylindrical plastic with a hole right through it. You would be better off with a cylindrical spacer, square peg, round hole and all that.

As long as the spring sits on top of the spacer. I didn't actually go out and buy a spacer, I had some stock material lying around that just happened to fit my needs so I used that to replicate Chillcoke's spacer.

Cheers mate, AussieStig
