Gateway CX2620 Tablet suggestions

I'm getting a new laptop soon and I want a tablet. After some research I've decided on the Gateway CX2620. I don't care about weight, its got a huge hard drive, loads of RAM and a nice Graphics card to boot. plus, its only $1500, But I also have a few questions for anyone who has one, can it burn DVD's? and how long does the battery last? I'll be using it for school BTW

....... DVD +/- RW Multi-Format Double Layer...
The +/- confuses me. So it CAN read and write to CD's, and DVD's? How long would the battery last if I were to take notes most of the time and occasionally play a game. And how long does it take to recharge?

The +/- denotes the fact that it can read and write in both types of media formats (DVD+R and DVD-R discs).

Well...you could have valled it a notebook instead of a tablet. A tablet is much smaller, and couldn't hold any of the components that this notebook/laptop has.

Get a screen protector. Or you could just buy a better laptop (in terms of specs) and a Wacom tablet.

Its a Convertible laptop, Tablet laptop, whatever. 14 inch screen, 1 gig RAM, etc. In reality I'm still trying to convince my Dad to get it. He's getting soon a bonus that's $1000 - maybe-MAYBE - more - but $1k is it. I still have to justify the extra $500 and he doesn't have much faith in the hinge from the pictures he's seen. This is for school so I need the keyboard, and that graphics card looks like it can handle a serious game. Look Here

What do you plan to use it for? (photoshop? graphic design?)

School! Taking notes, Using word, surfing the web, I'm trying to learn photoshop and fruity loops. I'll play a game occasionally, and I generally like a fast computer., a slow on annoys me to no end and to keep it from bothering me I usually leave it on. I need a a reasonable amount of space for videos that I download (BMI, Anime, Super GT, etc.). I have a 40 gig right now but I'm limited to only thirty because I accidentally partitioned part of it to a Recovery Drive...I don't what it is- it's just there- I've started deleting some of my files, put some on CD's to free up space, but I still only have 9 gigs free. 80 gigs would be Cool but 100 would be complete freedom in knowing that I'll never actually fill it up...and on, and on...

I'd reccomend a ordinary laptop with a Wacom. You can configure a Dell which will absolutely blow the Gateway out of the water (the Gateway only has an integrated grphics card) for about 1k, then spend the $400 on a nice Wacom Intuos3.

Well, keep this in mind (even though I'm talking desktop PC)

I have a 160GB hard drive. I thought that was overkill and I'd never use it, because my old HDD was only 19GB and I still had maybe 5GB left over on it. I only have about 50GB of free space left on this drive. You don't think you'll use it, but over time, you will.

Keep in mind that this is for high school. I've seriously considered a Dell, but I have yet to see a convertible from them. I've seen slates on their site but nothing else. And, GTR4, if i get a normal laptop for 1k, my dad isn't going to fork over another $400 just to get me a wacom - it would end up connected to my main computer anyway, I wouldn't want to carry it around- I' d rather keep it all in one.:sly:

The reviews lookked pretty good on the circuit city website. Machone, the HDD thing, If I do get it and it gets to the point where I've run out of space, I'll probably get an external HD.

hello?

I would go with the Intel Core Duo. I don't know if it will really be noticeable, but overall performance will be better than the Pentium M.

It really depends on what you do with your computer. Do you really need the extra 20GB?

not really , if i ever do I'll get a portable hard drive

Addition: The one thing that does bother me though is the graphics card. I would assume that Radeon X600 > Intel ... Accelerator

The X600 is much better.. But the Core Duo is also much better than the Pentium M.

Like DM said, it all depends on what you're going to be doing with it. If you want to play games, I'd say it would be in your best interest to stay away from GMA solutions (personally I have a GMA900 in my laptop, slightly older, fairly similar).

Help me out here, I'm divided: A core Duo or an ATI Radeon. I want the Radeon so that I can run Vista no prob and the Duo for the speed. Admittadely I don't play games much but I might pick up a game or two sometime in the future.

Is Vista your only concern (no gaming)? Then according to Paul Thurrott, "You can run Aero Glass just fine on Intel's latest integrated chipset." As long as enough memory is allocated for graphics (256 MB), Vista's Aero interface will run just fine on an Intel GMA 950.

Edit: The processor you linked to is a Pentium D, a desktop processor. Pentium D and Core Duo, though both dual-core processors, are different.

I figure I'll get the cx210x with the ATI Radeon X1600, a bigger battery, 100 gigs HD, and a multiformat dvd drive., comes to 1650 tax already added and a coupon I found.
