Recently I started browsing this forum as I am going to start something like this soon (building my own cockpit, that is)

In that cockpit, there is an actual dashboard, gauges and lights and such. How is something like that done? Is it a seperate program that takes the output of the game and throws it to a computer which tells the gauge what to display? I kinda figure that GT5 wouldn't have this capability, but I would imagine that something on the PC would (considering the ability to run multiple programs at once with Windows)
Is there any references you can provide, or maybe a search term I can use on google? I searched for several different phrases and terms but all I seemed to come up with was stuff about wiring gauges, (as in the type of wire and it's size), and being in my field, I already know what the difference is between a 16 gauge wire and a 22 gague one!
