Hi guys, Im thinking about the gear ratio , it can be affect the performance of cars whiled drifting.....:)

my question is in which situation we have to change the gear ratio?

and is it important to race and drift????( my opinion is that it is really useful to normal race , but if drifting, i have no idea about it)

how about you guys??

if you know, pls....tell me more about it .....thx for ur reply!

Hello and welcome to GTPlanet.
I personally like closer ratios on my cars because i find that their is no purpose of higher speeds while you drift. So what i would suggest is to put a customized box on your car and lower the ratios take it out and see how the top speed affects your drift. Get it to where you don't go too fast so you use less time breaking, and then fiddle around with it until you get it just where you like it. I would suggest going into the settings depot here...http://gtplanet.net/forum/t-35358.html... and here...https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/t-21809.html... to understand what i am talking about... If you have any further questions those links would probably do you best...

Sorry i am not oging into detail, but my real purpose for responding is to say: Please don't post pictures of completely unrelated things. If you want to talk about STi's and stuff go to the auto forum and post a pic there...

Anyways enjoy your stay...

The corners were designed with certain general gear ratios in mind, so if you make your ratios too close then you will find that it's very easy to keep the car at or near redline without much throttle. If that's the case, you may want to stretch the gears out a little. If that's not the case, by all means make them closer like Bengee said! =) I'm a big fan of close ratios too.

I use the gear ratio when the power is very High. Like turbo 3, i use very high gear ratio or it will understeer every corner. It's important.

hmmm, mine usually end up between 28 and 34. Guess its all just personal preference. I like having alot of gear to work with, too close and it becomes harder to keep the rev's in the power band imo.

Definitely nothing wrong with stock settings... as long as your car is stock... and on sims with tcs and asm off

Dicking around with the gear ratios is tricky.....
1st: Where is your powerband for the car you are drifting?? It is important to know between what RPM levels your car is getting the most HP and torque at. Knowing this, you know where to keep the revs at for peak drifting performance.

2nd: What gear(s) are you using the most to sustain a drift?

If your car has a narrow powerband, then I'd suggest making the "drifting" gears wider...or further apart. By doing this, you are stretching the amount of time your car stays within its powerband.

For a wider powerband, make the gears taller. This will increase torque performance without any loss of drift while shifting gears.

Pay attention to the way the car reacts, and adjust accordingly. PM me if you need further help.

Same here. I used to mess with the gear ratios quite a bit, but now I just adjust the auto setting. It doesn't make that big of a difference. However, if you need a little extra power in certain gear, or if the engine response seems a little off, then messing with the gear ratios can be most useful. ;)
